With the world cup only a few days away and i for one looking forward to it was thinking of how many great moments we've had so far at the RWC. So post yours and lets get ready for the ninth.

Ngwenga dburning Habana the last time round

Love that Ngwenya try!! Is it my imagination or is the Cleverly intercept very similar to the a try USA scored in this years Churchill cup? Or am I way off?

Jonny's drop kick to win it in 2003:)

I'd go for the Nygwenya try myself. It had it all. The minnows against the soon to be champs. Starting from their own 22. Then that massive hand off, spin it out to to the fastest winger in the world against what people thought was the fastest winger in the world. Quality.

That or I'd have Lomu but can't pick which try, his breakout performance in 1995 against England scoring 4 and then that one where he just went over the top. I think his try against France in 1999 was better as he just went through the whole pack by himself.

Frances comeback v the All Blacks after being 24-10 down at half time in 1999.

France beating New Zealand in '99. It was the first World Cup I remember and this match made me fall in love with the game. Arguably one of the greatest rugby matches of all time. Thought Fiji beating Wales in 2007 and qualifying was a great moment also as they were given no hope before the tournament started and it was a great victory for positive, all-out attacking rugby.

Just found this, what a game.

Aussies dumping hyper-confident NZ out of comp in 1991 and 2003.

Agreement on the NZ-France game from '99. Absolute classic.

i was nine years old during the 1st world cup in 1987

id rate the france australia semi final as being equal to the 1999 semi final between france and the all blacks , the winning french try ( 1987) was the most memorable team effort ive ever seen with the great serge blanco delivering the final touch

Has to be my earliest rugby memory of seeing the springboks beat the kiwis in 95 to lift the cup. Having spent the first 6 years of my life in south africa it was a rather powerful and formative moment in my young life to see Mandela hand the cup to Pienaar amid all the political connotations that had. I was too young to understand of course, but it still resonates with me to this day.

I never get tired of posting this YouTube video - poor quality and all as it is. I would even put up with my beloved All Blacks being beaten this time out if Jonny was responsible. :D

Jonny Wilkinson is pure class admire him alot, to be playing in another world cup with the amount of injuries/ops he has had it's amazing.

If only he had an attacking game he would have been unstoppable

Just found this, what a game.

That ref is awfully whistle happy. Amazed at the number of penalties and I'm only 20 minutes in.

winning a world cup and getting a team single handedly to a final with serious recurring injuries would suggest otherwise. unlike dan carter who limped off injured in the dying minutes at the last world cup when his great attacking game was shut down. you wont find many passers better than wilko and you wont find a better tackler or place kicker/dropkicker at outhalf.

he still is the main man and id still prefer to play with wilko than carter

That's the first time I've watched the NZ-France game in full.

I must admit, I was expecting something else entirely. I always thought it was just France staging an amazing comeback in the second half and blowing NZ away. While France were irresistible in the second half, they were the better team almost throughout.

Seeing Keith Wood's face after we lost in the quarters to Argentina in 2003. Very emotional. Not necessarily a great moment but he was a great man.

Gary Halpin giving the fingers to the All Blacks after he scored the opening try in the game in RWC 1995. Not the classiest thing to do by any stretch but definitely a world cup memory that will always stick with me. Got the supporters fired up at the time.

As for what happened next, well.......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭bamboozle

Halpin's 2 finger salute to NZ
France knocking out NZ in '99 & '07 (guess what team i despise)
Geoghgan's tackle on Lomu in '95
    Lomu steamrolling Mike Catt
    Hamilton's try v's oz

It certainly is a RWC highlight. That team was magnificent. The day they backscuttled us for the GS at Lansdowne they were imperious. Also, given the totally one-sided refereeing that was simply intent on Aus winning it, the drop goal was perfect. With a proper ref, England would have won by a large margin that day.

God, I wanted to dislike them. I really did. But how on earth can anyone dislike Greenwood, Wilkinson, Back, Vickery, Robinson and, of course, Richard Hill? Fantastic team that were absolutely superb in their focus and execution. I was delighted when they won the tournament.

The Wales v New Zealand pool match in 2003 has to rank as one of the best games in tournament history; some of the rugby was just amazing.
