    few days ago I think

Watched it anyway, very good show you can see its not very original but they use what works in my opinion. If it builds from the pilot will be excellent.

some of it was like the show 'Happy Endings', and actually one of the actors is also form that show. So is Happy Endings cancelled? I quite liked it

He was only in the pilot, as he had a commitment to "Happy Endings" - as it got renewed, he has been replaced on "New Girl" which will seem a bit jarring since they didn't re-shoot the pilot.

I definitely like Deschanel and the show seems to bank heavily on how much the audience likes her but I didn't find the pilot very funny overall. Still, most comedy pilots I can remember have been a bit on the weak side so I'll definitely give it a few more episodes before I make up my mind.

Ah excellent, dont think I could go without my Elisha Cuthbert fix.

Did someone say Justin Long is in it? Is he not the dorky type actor from films like Dodgeball. Did not recognise him at all if he was in it.

Yes that's him - he's also known as the Mac guy from the Mac and PC Apple ads. He wasn't in he pilot - apparently he has a multi episode arc booked but I can't remember when he is scheduled to first appear, third episode I think.

Two boobs Johnson... TIGER boobs Johnson.

Pretty damn good pilot actually, very funny and I hope that they keep this going. Love Zooey Deschanel - I sort of see this being a bit like 30 Rock in a way, some is quite subtle.

They could just throw Deschanel up on the screen for 25 minutes and I'd be happy.

Looking forward to seeing how it progresses. Comedy pilots are usually very underwhelming.

At least this whelmed me a little.

Was a horrible promo.. but it has Zooey Deschanel...

    .. TORN!

I watched it last night, not as bad as expected....please note, i am NOT a fan of Zooey, i always found her ditzy, too "alternative" and a dreadful singer. But as to the pilot...there was some really good laughs but a few times the jokes fell flat.

The kookie female roomie will get annoying imo, but i like that three lads....the douchebag jar was great!, some have likened it to TBBT.......eh?, just because you have three guys and a girl don't make it so, the format is nothing new, i just hope it dosen't focus too much on Dechaneel as for reasons above ^

Will i keep watching?....what night is it on?, what is it's competition?....my schedule this year is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If i can fit it in i might watch but it's not on a must see now list. 3/5

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

I also noticed similar traits to TBBT. The show was ok as such.
Quirky and will be interesting to see if there is any story arcs or just something always news each week alone.
Will watch this show for a while to give it a chance.

It was...ok. I'll give it a few more episodes but wasn't particularly won over.

Just saying... go back and watch ANY pilot of a "comedy" show on TV now or in the past. Even the most hilarious ones.

I bet you'd only find a handful of pilots that were "side splitting" or even funny at all. Pilots prove the concept of the show, how it works, the type of comedy... the actors very often even. This was a particularly well made and well produced pilot, so it felt very much like the start of the season - but it's not, the show needs to find its feet.

Watching it right now & enjoying it but I do like her. The guys seem to have a well written dynamic too. I think it's probably more aimed at women.

The theme tune reminds me of Jenna singing "It's Pat" on 30 rock though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭DeWitt

Coach was my fave of the guys, but then I found out the actor has been recast due to another of his pilots getting picked up or something. #bummed

I presume it's because Happy Endings got picked up for a second season.

I quite liked the pilot - except for the cringey "Time Of Your Life" restaurant scene.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭DeWitt

Ah yeah, that was it. Thanks!

the pilot aired last night, i thought it was fairly good it looks like a show ill watch for as long as it airs, i was expecting this to be all zooey deschanel but it wasnt, the 3 lads are great and going by the pilot i see no reason they cant get better, when i saw a wayans in the credits it put me off a bit, but he turned out to be one of the funniets caracters,

this and 2 broke girls look like good new shows,

Overall is ok (probably because Zoey in it) but the restaurant scene definitely cringing!

I actually lolled at 2 broke girls and it's got Kat Dennings om nom nom!

The restaurant scene came off as knowingly cringey I thought. I doubt they'd be doing something similar on a regular basis.

Lake Bell, Natasha Lyonne and Katie Cassidy have signed up for guest roles

It's got potential - who have they cast to replace Wayans though? That could make it or break it for me... They need someone just as good to take over the role.

i dont really like anyone with the last name wayans, but TBF to the guy he was the best caracter in the pilot, i dont understand why they didnt just reshoot the pilot with the guy coming in next week,

also is the new guy gonna be coach, or is he gonna be a different person, he down as winston on the IMDB page,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

not really a shock in my book, i watch one and a half seasons of glee, and then just stopped, not a common thing for me to do, the show took a major dive in quality, it done in 5 episodes what took heroes two season to do,

The new guy is gonna be a completely different character, all will be explained in the next episode.

technically they should rename the show to "The Newish Girl and the Even Newer Guy".

i was a big fan of My Wife and Kids. There's also a fairly unknown movie called Bulletproof starring Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler which is hugely underrated. The rest of the Wayans bros, I don't rate...

To be fair he's not a Wayan's bro, he's the son of a Wayan's bro. Damon's son to be exact.

Richard was making a Make It or Break It related joke.

    Sheeeeeesh....

I'm out lads, ep. 2 was just terrible!...no laughs, the new [black] guy....crap!, Wayans Jnr. is badly missed. I said right away i'm not a fan of Zooey, i find her annoying....her quirky oddball "i'm sooo kooky" act she does in everything she appears in annoys me.

There was zero laughs in ep. 2, i can't be arsed giving it a chance...my gut is usually right, and my gut is telling me to bail [i'm close to this feeling on 2 Broke Girls and Ringer].

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

I thought episode 2 was good - show still has potential. I think it's paired well with Raising Hope

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

I don't know, I quite enjoyed the 2nd episode. Zooey is great and has excellent comedic timing. Winston is very quiet and not the same "type" of character as Wayans Jr., but perhaps he'll find his stride.

I only see this show improving - this is almost a second pilot IMO.

Really enjoyed the 2nd episode.. definitely the most promising of the "comedies" (along with "Up All Night" which had a much better second episode).

'Girl made a lot of jam, Spence'

This show is actually pretty good, both episodes had plenty of laugh-out-loud moments for me. Sure, it's not perfect, but given time it could evolve into something great.

Schmidt's been the star of the show so far.. but it's a good supporting cast to be honest!

Its a hit! Full season ahoy....
FOX has ordered an additional 11 episodes of the hit comedy NEW GIRL, bringing the series to a 24-episode season order, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

Nice.. first new show to get a full season methinks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Wahey, Zooey can do no wrong.

I'd like to see how much of this show is scripted. Because I'd imagine writing for Zooey wouldn't be the easiest of tasks.

I liked it a lot. Although who ever said it's like a second pilot is spot on. I really hope it starts to move away from the premise they've used for both episodes now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭Seren_

Just watched both episodes there. They were grand - not amazing, but what series ever is at the beginning? Kinda crap that Damon Wayans Jr couldn't stay on, I really liked his character (and he is the IMAGE of his dad, omg!).

I've a feeling there's going to be a possible romance between Jess and Nick... It just seems like they were setting it up a bit in those episodes. I hope it won't be a focus point of the series though, because it could maybe ruin it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

nice to see they didnt bring back the jar, shows there moving forward and not dwelling on pointless jokes that stop being funny very fast,

bar the song at the start (sung by zooey) which is a bit cringeworthy, its looking like it can be a good show,

when she brought her exs new girlfriend to the airport it wasnt really funny, but when she came home and told the guys it just seemed halarious, the way she just clicked how very wrong it was, i wonder if she collected her :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

I think Schmidt could easily be this year's Burt Chance (Raising Hope)/Phil Dunphy (Modern Family)/Pierce Hawthorne (Community)/Sheldon Cooper (TBBT)/Barney Stinson (HIMYM).
Can't think of any characters in any of the other new sitcoms that could come close to landing a place in the TV Comedy Wall of Awesome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,990 ✭✭✭squonk

I watched the first two episodes of New Girl the other night. It's got Zoe Deschanelle in it. I really have to say I enjoyed it. The one thing I found a bit weird was that in episode 2 when they introduced the new cast member, I found myself wondering did they dump another one?

Either way though, it's very quirky and if you like zoe Deschanelle in general, you'll love this! I'm very pleased so far!
