    Hi,
I am new to this, I really need some info. I have just split from my partner of 9 years, myself and our 7 year old are moving into rented accomodation. I am currently in receipt of B.T.E.A. allowance, I applied for rent supplement, but C.W.O. informed me its unlikely I'll get it, as a. I moved from family home (even though we rented for over 5 years) and b. students are disqualified from applying for rent allowance. My rent is 450eur p.m. I receive €217 on b.t.e.a. add on childcare, oil, e.s.b. food etc, it just doesn't add up. Any suggestions please??:(

b: If you are getting BTEA you do qualify for rent allowance.
I don't know about the rest but every little helps I hope.

You are definetely entitled to rent allowance based on what you have said, since I moved from my family home AND am getting BTEA, and currently get full rent allowance. You must have a slightly unco-operative CWO, or your area is different.
I'm only 23 with no kids or a partner, so if anyone was likely to be told to stay at home and lump it, it would be me. Kick up a fuss!

Thanks for the replies, at least now I know others are entitled I can go to my C.W.O. with this info, he is particularly unsympathetic towards anyone trying to improve their situation by going to college or participating in any kind of training. I find out on thursday, so hopefully I can post some good news then:)

If you get accepted, you will also be entitled to an extra 20 a week for fuel allowance from the end of September to April :) Make sure you get some forms for that too, every little does indeed help!

@Thumbelina 29: You have to be in rent allowance already which I was. If you look at your BTEA letter it states that, well the letter I got did.

Let us know how it goes, they can always make exceptions.

I wouldnt go into the CWO on Thursday quoting boards.ie, that wont do you any good. What do you think hes going to say "Oh if an anonymous stranger on a forum says you are entitled to RA then they must be right and I must wrong, my bad, heres your rent allowance!"
Everybodys circumstances are different. If the CWO continues to refuse you, ask for the refusal in writing, and contact the Superintendent CWO and/or appeal to the HSE Appeals office stating your grounds.
