Canyon is out of stock and end of life so you make have to wait for Canyon 2012 pricing and have another think.

Well, after all the helpful replies I got on this thread from the vast members on site.

I decided to go and buy myself a Cube Ltd Comp 2011 model in red and white for €680 delivered.

That's a option as well, 10% off usually on the cycle to work as well

If you buy locally is usually easier to sort out any warranty issues as well, and you have a free service after 30 days

You only got a great reduction because you buy XTC 3s in bulk!! :D How many have you had now?

Just had a quick look at McConveys site, they seem do be doing some great deals at the moment.

That ^ is the bike I didn't get, the seller frauded me but I got my £600 back...

Anyway, on to the next one...

Any opinion on this; Corratex X-vert s0.3 - going for a nice price on eurocycles, real light too.

I haven't shopped for a mountain bike for a while, so I'm not too familiar with current specs, but that bike seems like fair value with that discount. Compared to a Cube LTD (similar spec and price) it's 1.4kg lighter, so that makes it better in my book.

Curious to hear what happened to your ebay transaction?

The fork isn't up to much on that bike and its probably the most expensive part to replace.

Dunno what size you are but Canyon seem to have some Large (20.5") Grand Canyon AL 6.0 back in stock, and it will be on your doorstep in 2 weeks!

I am new to the MTB seen, up to recently I had a Corratec X-Vert cross. It wasn't a full on mountain bike, more like a hardtail with skinny tyres. I gave it plenty of cycling and abuse on light tracks through woods and it was faultless. Solid bike with a decent level of equipment for the price i paid for it when new.
I have just upgraded to Cube Acid 2012 model and and loving it so far. When buying try and get one with remote lock out, real handy.

It makes a huge difference. When I first tried it I felt like I was riding a different bike.

    Hi Lads

    Thanks for the responses.

What about either of these two? They both look great to my untrained eye :)

    and

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=59240

@Cubed, where did you get the Cube 2012 Acid and for how much?

Go for option one, it's lighter and has Shimano gearing:

Really? Ok and does anyone know how that would compare to a Cube LTD 2012 bike?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,152 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

    Ok, basic point here...

Pretty much all bikes at/around the €1k and below mark are made to a "price point" which means manufactuers spec them out of the same parts bin and to suit the selling price, with other differences being colour scheme etc..

Most of them are even made in the same factory in the Far East!

The one I have recommended you choose from CRC is a good spec and would compare very well to the Cube... So all thats left is go buy it, get out on the trails and enjoy the bike...

Cool thanks a lot for the tips.

One last question as I'm literally about to pull the trigger, there's a discount on Cube 2011 bikes on CRC.

This is the Cubd LTD 2011 - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=57172

Do you still believe the original option is a better spec bike? Your option is also 1.7kg lighter...

this is pretty much the best hardtail a 1000 euro can buy, but that beone aspire is a very nice bike as well, my preference would be the canyon as you get a better fork on it

ps never mind its sold out :( that beone looks great go for it

I paid 850 in Spokes in Waterford with a few bits thrown in & first service free of charge.

They told me when buying that the differences between the 2011 & 2012 were negligible, slightly different paint-job and a few other small differences. CRC appear to be selling off the 2011 models a bit cheaper. I am no expert on bikes but i would imagine the performance differences between bikes all at a similar price would be very little.. the only thing that would sway me would be the frame warranty if it was longer an another brand.
