well im thinking of upgrading my car sometime soon and iv been frightened off by the 05+ a4's and 05+ passat's both 140bhp

so im wondering what are these 2004 + diesel accords like? i was thinking of buying a 04 or 05 but iv heard problems with the timing chains etc. so would i be worth my while spending abit more and buying a facelift 06?

are they more reliable to the 2.0 audi a4's and passats?

which model should i go for an executive or a sport basically which diesel accord has the most extras?

is there any difference in power in the diesels what bhp would they be? and are they 6 speed?

im thinking of buying a standard one and kitting it because most of the cars kitted ones on uk plates are probably just cut and thrown together?

so im wondering how much would a , kit , 19" a5 alloys , twin exhausts , lowering springs set me back roughly and would these mods bring on the car alot ?

and lastly would it be worth my while going to the uk for a good one? and would i save money?

    thanks

    Hi David,

Your research is correct in relation to 04/05 Accords and possible timing chain issues, which is why it is essential the correct 0W30 fully synthetic oil is used. Honda have an extended 7 year warranty for this problem. However, if you do put in a warranty claim, the car must have had a full Honda service history (or proof correct oil was used at service intervals), less than 125k miles and be no more than 7 years old.

I owned a 130 Passat for 3 yrs prior to the Accord. It wasn't problem proof as many think the VAG cars are. Mine needed a replacement steering rack. A potential €1200 part if it wasn't for a decent mechanic I use sourcing me a replacement, €300.

The Executive is a higher spec than the Sport. Full leather compared to half leather in the Sport, sat nav and electric seats I think are the only differences. Possibly sunroof in the Executive too. the 2.2 diesels are 140bhp and are a 5 speed box.

I have no info on mods as I'm not into them. My car is standard as from the factory. But, compared to the Passat, the Accord is a nicer "drivers" car IMO. The Passat is very softly setup I found. Can't give any advice on buying in the UK to save. That will require some internet shopping on your part :)

    HTH,
    K.

P.S. - My Accord is for sale. PM me if you'd like details.

Hi i have just bought an 05 honda accord 2.2 excutive diesel it is by far the best car i have ever had. Doesnt sound like a diesel very smooth. Fully loaded with every extra. 140 bhp very fast. Only bad points are high tax and insurance. I do 400 to 500 miles per week so it is well worth it for the comfort. The timing chain was done aswell under warranty. The only issue ive had is under very hard accelarating the very odd time there is a little stutter im thinking air flow meter. Other than that ive never been happier driving a car .
