Hi I was just wondering what is the average price for a check up and clean in a dentist? Also do I have to pay up front or can I pay at a later stage?

Look at dentists website and ring a few for average prices. Yes you will have to pay at the time you have the checkup and cleaning just as you pay for groceries when you take them out of the shop.

My dentist charges 85 euros, but I get it all back with VHI Dental cover (twice yearly)

I have to be the devils advocate here and ask how much the cover is per year?

About 80 euros, and considering that I have brittle teeth and bad gums I visit my dentist quite often so it's really worth it for me. Might not be for someone who has very little issues

Their website states that the dental plan that covers 100% of preventive starts at 215 euro a year, how did you manage to get such a low premium....bargain.

I have VHI medical cover paid by my company. They pay a pourcentage of the dental cover. I paid it in February along with the kids' cover so I don't remember exactly how much it was

Even at 215 euros, I'd still go for it. Last year, they refunded around 500 euros. They paid 70% of my root canal (about 450 euros) the year before. I know I need a crown and more work done, so it works out well for me. Then again, it's a case by case, it might not be good for someone else

My dental check up costs €30 and cleaning costs €50.

Cleaning with hygenist is usually between 65 and 85 for half hour. Two visits per year are fully covered by VHI DeCare but premium cost me 283 last year. Only really worth it if you have a lot of dental expenses!
