Carareen, I am a Fully Qualified Beauty Therapist and I would not recommend any online Beauty course. In order to be a qualified therapist and to be 100% competent, you are required to perform so many hours of theory and practical in a classroom so your tutor can assess you. I didn't even realize that you could do online courses in Beauty or any other Therapy to be honest, but I would research it well before you make any decisions in case they are claiming it to be a qualification that it ain't! Also, as far as I am aware, ITEC is a Diploma course not a certificate. Hope this helps!

    hi gee

thanks for the info iv since enrolled on a year long diploma course in a beauty college in bothe ITEC and CIBTAC
i am wondering about the practical exam is it 3 hours?
do you need to supply models or is classmates used?
what type of oral questions are asked?

    thank you

Yeah the practical exams are usually a couple of hours long and generally each student brings a model and you swap around then. Is it facial therapy you are doing or body therapy too?

do you work on your own model or sum1 elses model?

    i am doing beauty specialist

As far as I know in most college's you will have to work on somebody else's model. Its all about getting used to different clients, different skin types etc. Your assessor will want to see why you chose a particular face treatments for your client, ask you about clients skin type, some contraindications etc. this is the sort of questions you will be asked orally in an exam but don't worry about that. By the time your practical exams come around, you will be well fit to answer all questions!

i slightly freaking out about the exam(practical) and the work load my tutor has kind of put me at ease saying that i did my leaving cert with 8-9 subjests, this is only one with more practical then theory

my course is 2 mornings 10-2 a week

If you have an interest in it, you'll love it and it will come easy to you! I did not like school at all, infact hated it. Didn't do well in my LC and since then I am Fully Qualified Therapist and have just Qualifed to be a tutor too. Makes things a lot easier when you enjoy something!Best of luck with everything!!

    thank you!

i HATED HATED school aswell so much. i really have a huge interest in beauty iv already qualified as a professional make up artist.

im thinking at least if i keep ontop of work load it shud be fine.

my plan for long term is to become a tutor aswell and maybe open my own college eventually.
how many years experience wud you reccommend before doing the teacher training course?
did you do train the teacher fetac course or what course

Most teaching courses will require you to have a few yrs experience before training as a tutor, generally 3-5 yrs I think! I would recommend it anyway, as I said I'm qualified 7yrs and its really only in the last few yrs that I have felt confident enough to teach. Even after exams and assessments are passed there is a lot of stuff you will learn from working hands on with different clients, stuff you don't learn from books unfortunately :-)
No, I did the City and Guilds 7302 Teacher Training, its a great course. You can teach all awarding bodies with this (ITEC, CIBTAC, CIDESCO, VTCT, etc)

also are you opening your own school now or whats the plan?:D

No, it was one day a month for 9 months. It was around €3,000 I think. Mostly assignments. No not yet, want to get a few yrs teaching first..not ready for that sort of commitment just yet!!! Also, if you look up itec website, I think its itecworld.co.uk, it will give you the syllabus for Beauty, all the modules you will be doing. And you should be able to get lots of sample written exam questions online too if you just Google them. You'll get lots of help online!!

    thank you! :)

in the practical exam is it just you, your model and the examiner or is there a few examiners with different students in one room at once?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,215 ✭✭✭Gee_G

I think its generally one or possibly two examiners and the rest of your class doing there's too. Obviously depending on the number of beds. It might even be just you and five or six other students with one examiner! Seriously, stop even thinking about the exams at the end! You will be 100% competent in every aspect of your course and you will actually be quite surprised at how confident you are doing them!

thanks for calming me down :)

i'm glad its not just me, my model and the examiner i thought u were alone in the room yourself there's 8 beds in my school and i think 11 students

my diploma is cibtac and itec
