I'm looking for a decent (not too expensive ) set of headphones for my PS3, I'm using a TV that doesn't have a headphone jack so I can't wear headphones for late night gaming I just have to turn the volume down on the TV.

Are there any headphones that I can use the USB port on the front of the PS3 slim to route the audio through, a mic is no essential but might be nice to have if it doesn't push the cost up too much.
    Thanks,

Sorry to tell you but no, the ps3 doesnt send audio out through the usb port. You'll need a headset like a turtlebeach or something cheaper like the orb headsets that send the audio out through the port in the back of the console

Ah balls, I'm using the HDMI out for picture only via HDMI - DVI cable and im using the phono connectors from the Sony port to provide stereo L+R to the picture so I'm already using that connection, I could split off the aduio from here is I had to but how would I control the volume as it is just a line out from here?

What about a bluetooth solution of some sort?

A headset will work from the av output. Use the av lead that came with the console. The headset will conect to that. When you want to play with the headset on, you can go to the settings and tell the ps3 to send the audio through the headset and not the hdmi, ( hdmi will carry sound and picture ) To work the mic theres an extra output that connects to the front usbs. Take my word get a comfortable headset and you'll have everything you need. :D

Dont know if a bluetooth device would work, havent any experience along that line

just leave it the way you have setuo now, the likes of a turtle beach headset has a passthrough that goes between the rca's and the tv and passes the sound to the headset, it connects to usb to power the controls for game and chat volume

I'm using the Earforce PX21 headset. It's wired, via USB and phono cables. (you need both). Think it was €80 in Game. It works with the xbox too (hence why i got it as they're are slightly cheaper ps3 specific options)

    The sound is fantastic.

Sony are launching an official 7.1 wireless headset soon tho so might be worth checking that out

Iv been looking at them new ps3 headsets all day and talking to a yank that got a set, he reckons there is better sound and more comfortable than the px21s.
    Px21s are a bit tight.

But if he want cheap and no mic, get normal set of sony headphones in argos
for 20 quid and it will plug into the jack in your tv.

Iv a set of these before id had the px21, theres a long lead on it.

Or get the ps3 wireless ones if he doesnt want to mess with his wiring, its a usb that plugs into the ps3 and wireless headset with a mic.
Anyone know where to get them????

I think I'm going to get a set of the new Sony wireless ones for my B-day, i'm off on a short notice work trip on Monday to the US for 3 weeks so I'll pick them up over there.

It's a pity they aren't regular Bluetooth they look like an all round very good sounding set of headphones, shame not to be able to use them with anything else.
But the do exactly what I was looking for so I won't complain.

Enjoy. but even with any other headset wired or wireless your still going to have to mess around with wires and crap to change it from one console to the next.

if they were plug and play with everything it would be great alright.

What tv do you have that hasnt a phone jack???
