I am considering doing a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting in GMIT coming from a non-accounting or business background. I was wondering has anyone any experience doing this type of course in GMIT or elsewhere? Or any advice concerning it?

A friend of mine did this course in GMIT & has this feedback to give (her words exactly)
"I completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting in GMIT in May this year. I was really happy with the course, given that it was GMIT's first year offering the course. The lecturers were pretty good, with 2 excellent lecturers in particular. The class was small with just 13 students. I expect it will be bigger this year, but as far as I know the maximum intake will be 20.

The small class was really conducive to learning and everybody had the opportunity to ask questions, with lecturers being happy to take the time to explain difficult issues. Ultimately, if you are looking to gain exemptions quickly then I would definitely recommend the course. On successful completion you will be exempt from CAP 1 of the Chartered exams and 7, I think, of the ACCA exams. Obviously, you should confirm this. The course is presented with the exemptions in mind which is brilliant and I know a number of the lecturers have actually lectured for the professional bodies. I hope this helps!! "

Ya definitely, majority of lecturers are very good, nice atmosphere and it did help get me a job at a top 10 firm. If you've any previous exposure to accountancy you'll get through handy enough, if not you will probably find the first 2 months tough but after that everyone is at the same level.
