I am playing here at the weekend in a competition... the website is really poor regarding course layout, scorecard, hole view etc.... any one who knows the course well have any advice on playing the 2nd and 18th holes.... or the course in general.

2nd.. I'm not long enough to carry bunker so I hit it on fairway to right and have c. rescue left.. whats the story with that bloody tree in the middle of your line.. is it a lay up hole, if so what side...

18th .. how do you get a shot into last green with that tree on left... is it simply by flirting with the water with ur drive and hoping for the best?

    Any advice appreciated!

I don't recall any water on the right of 18 (that's on the West course). Yes, the water's on show, but well away from the fairway. For 18 stay as far right as possible - if you're not long you shouldn't have to worry about the bunker on that side. The approach will be tough, so depending on your score, play to the front right and leave a long putt or a chip and putt.

The 2nd - depending on the position of your drive, you can go left or right of the trees. Ideally a long drive should open up the green from the right. I've played a three iron off the tee and had a go at the green by playing left of the trees, but it's not the sensible approach.

    Course management on both holes.

The 2nd is reachable for longer hitters, but quite a narrow green from the angle you approach, so difficult to hold. I usually aim right of it if I'm swinging well, leaving myself a chip on for my 3rd shot.
If you haven't played it before, play it as a 3 shot hole. 2nd shot is key due to the tree in the fairway. Going long off the tee is not a great advantage. Three wood off-tee, utility/long iron played left of the tree to lay up, and wedge on is probably the safest way to play it.

The tree on the 18th doesn't really pose a problem unless you're a good bit left. You don't have to bring the water into play to have a clear second shot into the green.

Good luck with the round, it's a great course, the better of the two in my opinion!

2nd is a joke of a hole, truly awful.

Sorry Newport2, but if the OP does that he will end up in the bunkers short of the green everytime. Whenever I go left there, I wouldn't hit more than a 6 iron for my 2nd. The hole is meant to be played to the right of those trees, and if you can't draw the ball much, like me, you may have as little as a 6 iron for your 2nd before running out of fairway.
On the 18th, I would suggest aiming for the lefthand side of the green to avoid the hollow on the right.
In general, remember that the markers are in metres to the FRONT of the greens, and most greens are 30 metres long, so pay attention to the flag position, or you will be 3 putting all day long.
