Advice for a female travelling solo

Hey I'm taking off in January on a solo trip around the world. Bumping into a few people I know in various places along the way but for most of the trip I will be on my own. Itinerary at the moment (subject to change):
    Mid Jan: Dublin-Delhi (7 nights)
    End Jan: Delhi-Bangkok (4-5weeks)
End Feb: Bangkok-Shanghai (4 nights visiting cousin)
    Early Mar: Shanghai-Beijing (3 nights)
Early Mar: Beijing-Auckland (visiting friends for a few days then going to travel around. length of stay in NZ unknown)
After NZ: NZ-San Diego (visiting friends)
After SD: San Diego-NY (visiting cousin)
    After NY: NY-Dublin

So I will be on my own in India, Thailand and New Zealand. Not that worried about Thailand or New Zealand because everyone says its easy to meet people in hostels. A little bit worried about India because everyone says its the dodgiest place on Earth. Any tips on how to survive my trip?

    Kind Regards,

    J.

I've done Delhi alone, it's a fine place - but you will probably get a bit of a culture shock.

Just get a pre-paid taxi directly to your hostel. I stayed in the Paharganj. It's the backpacker place so stay there if you want company, but it is a market so it's loud and crazy. There are far quieter places in Delhi. Paharganj is just handy for everything; train, restaurants, Connaught Place etc.

With 7 days I guess you won't be going too far. You can organize everything there anyway. They have a lovely foreigners office in New Delhi railway station with AC and couches. From there you can book trains around the place. Dont' go for the pre-packaged tour - they're a rip off. Overnight trains are grand, go for 2nd class AC.

No need to worry about India, just don't flash skin or expensive items. :)
