This TV is 42" and full 1080 HD 50Hz with a MPEG4 decoder so it can get the Irish digital channels. I see you can pick it up in Xtravision from Friday onwards for 3 days only for 370 euro. Seems fantastic. Anyone have it or have any reviews?

yeah was looking for the same online given it looks so good, taking a read of an online review at http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/televisions/plasma-and-lcd-tvs/hannspree-sj42dmbb-708751/review?artc_pg=1 they seem to come down on its ability to decode signals fairly heavily and say its picture has more than a few flaws to it, jez tho 42inch 1080p with 3 hdmi ports got Vga composite connection and some scarts, its so tempting, I wish the xtra vision in town had one on display I'd shell out right away if I just seen it with gears on it for a second to make sure it isn't just rubbish.

aight, I was in xtra today and saw them inside and bit the bullet. surprisingly light massive box of the thing worried me a bit tbh but loaded it into a van carried it home and set the thing up in no time flat! caution if you do buy it the stand needs to be good and screwed on before putting the TVs weight on it, we almost dropped it because we just put it on the stand right off not seeing the screws.

Anyway got it all set up fast as lightning, connected the xbox to the thing using the composite leads and hit it on, have to say utterly shocked at the picture, crisp really well lite beautiful display on it, truely is amazing, note the time of this post as being after 9am the following day considering spent the whole night gaming on it, everything from forza to halo, smooth as butter.

The only thing it failed on horribly was the sound not only is the tvs speaker horribly quiet but the delay in guitar hero for audio was over 30ms it really is odd how it processes sound, figured it wouldn't matter too much considering all the types of connection on the tv and me owning an amp would easily just run the sound from the tv to my seperate speakers... well not quiet there is no phono jacks specifically for audio out so the only way of doing audio from the Tv to the amp was via the headphone jack on the TV which cuts the tvs speakers completely with no option to leave them on (not such a big deal considering they're awful anyway but still its some extra grunt) sorted a better work around after by connecting the xbox's audio directly to the amp then used a headphone to phono to route the sound back from the amp to the tv which worked pretty perfectly.

all in all tho, if you happen to have 370euros handy and you are in need of a good TV there is nothing you will be able to get for anything around this price that is this good, such a beautiful display for so little its a steal. didn't use it for watching actual tv yet btw just watched some media via the xbox and played games really well. no idea about how good bad its tuner is. but yeah the offer for that price is only on going over the weekend so it will end on oct 2nd. would seriously recommend it. good luck!

now going to sleep so I can wake tomorrow and indulge my eyes with 42 inchs of gears :D

edit : did notice one oddity with the screen tho! it did once on being turned on not pick up on that the xbox was in 1080 and it had rather odd artifacts around the screen, flicked the TV off and on again and it came up with the right resolution and was perfect all night after that :)

    Hi Ganondorf,
I'm just wondering how your TV is going for you as I'm looking to purchase one of these at the mo. Have you tried the PVR with saorview? is it any good? Easy to use?
Also how does it perform with your Xbox. Any bad stutter or lag since the screen is so big? Is the TV full HD.
Thanks a mill for your time and writing up the previous post. I like the price point of this baby as a similar priced one from one of the 'reputable' TV manufacturers would cost over €200+ more.

    Cheers
    Brian

    It does not have PVR
    It is full HD

Apparently the MHEG5 does not work for the Irish channels.

    Tuner ..... no problems .....
Sound .... is not good (being kind) but it can be set using a personal profile to suit the surroundings, which helps a lot.

As a TV I am happy with it ..... not used it for anything else except playing video from another STB.

What I read was that the USB connector is only for 'service' .....

aye there is a usb port on the side but its 100% only for use in upgrading its firmware, basically no use for entertainment in it at all.

the screen is full 1080p and in games like guitar hero perfectly calibrated it has about 5-8ms of lag which is pretty much as good as you are ever going to get for this size of a screen for this price.

The sound is well nasty tho, you will need some form of surround sound system hooked up to whatever you are using if you want to enjoy it full, the only way to say it is that the sound simply is not the same size as the screen :) it's like they took speakers from some 14inch portable thing and slapped them into it.

I've used it with pretty much every input it's got now too, absolutely no issues, from HDMI, VGA, composite or even when I whipped out my old megadrive and played a bit of dynamite headdy on it the coaxial works a treat, every thing works a dream for the money these tvs go for.

would definitely recommend if you like your gaming a little bigger or you play multiplayer games a lot and want some extra easy on the eyes gaming. you truly wont do better for this money.

oh as for actual tv channels or so with this, I have no idea the only media I use on it is all from either netflix or skyplayer on the xbox or else just downloaded stuff from the net but yeah watch 1080 wwe on it weekly via a pc and it's amazing for it, can read every sign in the crowd :D

I wonder if anyone with one of these had any info on the MHEG5 function.

Not that I use Teletext ...... just wondered if anyone had managed to get it to display for Saorview.

no I'm almost positive this model of tv can't receive soarview at all, you need to get an external receiver for it and connect that up before being able to watch it, that being said this set is cheap enough that even when adding the 50euros that a box costs to it still not going to put it over the 400 euros mark for a 42in 1080 tv and it has 3hdmi ports on it so you'll easily have a slot open to slot in the saorview box.

It does receive the Saorview channels and displays them perfectly.
It also has MHEG5 but the Irish MHEG5 text does not seem to display.

I have the same TV and always wondered why I couldn't get the Irish teletext to work.

Has anybody ever figured this out? It's pretty minor really as I don't use Saorview that much but it'd be nice to be able to use that feature once in a while.

I never did, but am very interested to hear if anyone has.

I wonder if the TV was set up again from scratch, and a different location used, would it possibly use the MHEG5 function?

I cannot even remember how to get to that set up :(
