Mr. A borrowed an item from Mr.B
    A and B had a falling out.
B wants the item back from A.
A says he can have it in a month.

The item is ~€1000 new and currently a year old and retailing second hand for about €800.

    Where does Mr.B stand legally?

I've attempted to keep within the rules. Promise :D

Mr B should consult a solicitor.

If Mr. A was taken to court, would he be liable for legal fees from both sides?

As said before, engage a solicitor, they are all knowing and will answer your questions!:D

Costs will depend on the ruling of the judge. There's no way to be sure.

Wait the month. If no result advise a solicitor will be retained at A's expense. Contact solicitor.

Without knowing the details of the loan agreement there is no knowing how a Judgment would go.

So if B said, take it and hold on to it for 6 months. Without signing anything.
Then asked for it back 2 months later, that might affect the judgement?

    I would think so.

On an unrelated note, the prospect of legal action has caused a matter coincidentally similar to this hypothetical one above to be resolved, with no money spent.
How will Solicitor make money now?
