If you buy through Carfonewarehouse, you stand a better chance of the phone being unlocked.

Where there's supply problems at launch, you'll sometimes get unlocked phones as the manufacturer uses SIM-free stock to fill demand. My N8 was bought under an eMobile contract shortly after launch, but is actually SIM-free. Later phones are network-locked.

For something that's been on the market elsewhere, and is just new to Ireland, or new to the network, there's very little chance.

Don't make it a factor in your decision.
