ive been there and it was fine - its like any other street / city just be safe and have your 'wits' about you.

    Enjoy!

I agree that it's about as safe as any other boisterous, night time entertainment district. Just keep your wits about you and watch your wallet/bag etc. I was there in March and noticed a lot of cops around so it is well policed. Compared to when I was there years ago, Canal Street now seems to attract a lot of non gay clientele these days (hen parties etc) such is it's popularity and a lot of the crowd that I saw had a "chav" or rough look. Whether that is the reason of the increased police presence, I can't say. I didn't feel unsafe however.

I was hoping to get away from bloody hen nights. My county has 1 gay bar and trying to find a bi or gay girl on sat night its un real.

They all part of hens or just in for the atmosphere, does my head in. The gay crowd are very clicky and if you dont know anybody u may was well be one of the straights.

its really getting to me lately, i only came out this year and there has been a lot of rejection or giggle giggle no, i am not gay but thanks.

sorry for dropping in on it mrs, but word is the one gay bar might be closing down soon (with any luck) but my advice to you is to not get too caught up in the scene here anyway, it's really not that pleasant at all. :) I know your only just out and you want to mingle but a little patience goes a long way. There are plenty of people out there I just find its not always a case of wearing a neon sign about them. And failing that if you still want to go crazy Cork or Dublin is only a drive away.
