Im starting a PLC course in september but now im not sure if i will be accepted for BTEA.
I already completed a PLC course in may 2010 and that was a Level 5.
Ive just read that this course is only a Level 2 course so im really not sure.
My intentions were to complete that course and apply for college for the following september.
What are my options if i do not get accepted for BTEA?

    Hi Kerry
I am in the same situation. I have all ready completed a level 7 course and wanted to do a level 5 course with the intentions of going to college next year .The social welfare office have refused my application saying that this will not be furthering my education . You can apply to have your case reviewed which i have done. Please let me know how you get on ..
    Thanks

as far as i am aware you must go up a level to qualify for BTEA so you would need to do a level 6 or higher.

im also waiting on my BTEA news, also doing a PLC. just asked SW yesterday, they said probably id hear something next week.

i wonder though, would I be eligible for BTEA next year if I was to do a same PLC level but different course, say im doing Childcare this year and Nursing next year. Im just thinking if jobs are still scarce when i finish course next year, i might as well do a different course. id have more job opportunities wouldnt i

In the same boat myself, I have a level 7 degree, want to go back to do a computing course which runs to level 8 (although you can opt out at level 7 if you want). No idea if I'll be accepted or not. Don't understand why you can't get it just because it has a different level, doesn't seem entirley fair.

The guidelines on BTEA are pretty clear on this issue - you must be progressing in qualifications to be approved. If you are not progressing, your BTEA won't be allowed.

    From the guidelines on www.welfare.ie
    1.10 Progression in education course
The approved full-time education course must lead to a higher qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications other than that already held. It is not considered that existing graduates should have an entitlement to BTEA to pursue a course at a similar qualification level as, inter alia, this can lead to displacement of persons seeking such qualifications for the first time. Reference should be made to the National Framework of Qualifications (see appendix 3) e.g. If a person holds a Fetac level 5 qualification, they must be progressing to a level 6 qualification.

Hi Siblers Just asking did you go up a Level to get your BTEA accpeted?

I currently have a level 7 degree, the new course which I'm doing runs up to level 8 but you can opt out at level 7 if you want. I still have to send off a confirmation form from college to say I've registered so it's not 100% guranteed I have it as the level 7 thing might feck me up yet.

Ok great so probably the reason they accepted you is becuse it goes to a level 8 which is a level higher than the degree you hold. I wont get accepted for the level 2 I no this because I rang up the Social and the woman told me I will not get accepted. And if i decide to do the course without the BTEA I will lose all of my JA. So I dnt reli have a choice really do I?
