Hey, dreamer; where did you leave your dream?

So; what dream did you have as a child, unto which you had always dreamed?

Mine was to be an army officer. Despite which I became a pen-pusher in a bank, but of which I still have dreams of carrying a machine gun and carrying a pistol to work... maybe that's just the bank.

This monster was after me in my bed, I was in the monsters body looking at me, and it was like one of those horror movies when ya see the person trying to scrawl along the bed to get away from the monster.

That was mine. It was very scary.

I wanted to be a dog or a cat because they don't have to go to school or work in the pissing rain of a dark November morning.

Interesting answers so far guys, but particularly what made you do the jobs you never though you'd do, or never do?

I also had this dream, I have machine guns and pistols spare. Drop me a PM and we can arrange this dream into reality.

    John Spillane fan?!

I wanted to be a Garda or in the Air Corps or Dublin Fire Brigade.

My crappy knees and feet means I can't do any of them.

Wanted to be a pilot, though the fact that despite flying regularly, the first thing I reach for when we hit turbulence is my glass of red wine if I have one next to me suggests I might not have made a good one :P

Don't know where it all went wrong! For years, I wanted to be an architect, probably until the age of 12. Then for the next few years I wanted to be a ninja. I actually looked at that ninja guy patrolling around his town in England the other day (in the news and a thread in AH) and was a bit jealous.

I wanted to become a builder so that I could make a new foot-path in my back garden where I played.
But alas, I became an engineer instead. :(

I wanted to be a pilot, primarily a jet fighter pilot but a private jet/commercial airliner would also have done.

It got left behind when I was 16 for various reasons. Still want to learn how to pilot light aircraft though :)

I wanted to be an athlete, then an artist living at the top of a mountain (my Heidi phase) then a counsellor. Why did I get into something I swore I'd never do? It was so easy - I just fell into it

Wanted to work in a video shop so I could just eat a load of sweets and watch videos all day, this is still my aspiration.

I always wanted to be an archaeologist but never got the points and therfore got pushed into other rubbish jobs for a while until i just quit everything and went to UCD at age 24 (no points required). Im now going into final year of archaeology and love every minute. Whether ill get a job or not is of course a issue but thats a problem for another day.

Went through a number of phases those being

    - a Garda Shickloney (my lazy phase took over at 18 and..... well I'm still in it over 20 years later), Naval Service (seasickness be damned)

    - Stretch limo driver (for the celebs but it'd all be hen parties and debs crowd now)

    - the person who pushes the button to start roller coaster rides (just so I can fake a look panic as the thing takes off and grab a phone and pretend to cry)

    - movie actor (from practicing my roller coaster act),

    - priest (I kid you not, it used to be all about the free house and car and being able to drink in public everyday but circumstances have changed)

    - and finally barman (after watching the movie Cocktail but after working as a barman for about 10 years, the bubble burst as a nightclub in Sligo is not a Carribbean Island).

Couch potato is working out great for me though.

In the '80's there was a period where the blowing up of old ESB chimneys and plants were televised. I always wanted to be a demolition expert, blowing the shít out of buildings (for money, not to get "da brits" out of Ireland or anything), and operating a huge wrecking ball.
