Engagement Ring-Wedding Ring-in-one?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a ring that would represent both an engagement ring and wedding ring in one?

Like many others here, we've been together forever and have known we'll eventually get married but never formally had an engagement. I've starting thinking of the wedding recently and TBH I'm not bothered about an engagement ring at this stage - sure they're nice but they are expensive!!
But I'd still like to have a ring that represents the 2. Is that just weird/selfish?

I suppose I could get something like an eternity ring for a wedding ring.... anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Nope, it sounds lovely.
Once you both love it, it doesn't matter if it is not keeping with tradition.

Actually it was what I originally wanted as the ring I really loved was an eternity style ring rather than a solitaire. I didn't want to bother with engagement ring, and just wanted to have the ring as my wedding band.
but my OH insisted on having an engagement ring as we'd have to show it to relatives, so we've gone the traditional route afterall.
Have it whichever way suits yourselves, if you both agree with having one ring, then that can be lovely too.

There are some gorgeous eternity rings out there so they're definitely the way to go if you still want a bit of sparkle.

If you're not that pushed about a big diamond there are also plenty of other precious/semi precious stones out there that you could get in a solitaire ring for a fraction of the price. You could have that stone alternated with diamonds in your eternity band then if you decide you want two separate rings afterall.

We didn't have an engagement ring either, just wedding rings. Neither did my sister - but she did want to combine her engagement and wedding ring in one. So she got a lovely wedding ring, with three small stones inset into it - it looked beautiful.

Thanks guys! I was worried that I was being off-the-wall but its great to see other people have loved the idea and done it. I like the idea of a wedding band with 3 stones set in it Jelly2!

Well there's a tradition of it, right, with Claddagh rings? They served dual function of engagement and wedding rings years ago... I'm a bit like you, OP, but I don't want 2 rings because I don't like the look of wearing 2 rings together on my finger!

A friend of mine got this band for a joint engagement/wedding band

    http://www.tiffany.ie/Shopping/Item.aspx?fromGrid=1&sku=GRP00007&mcat=&cid=&search_params=s+1-p+1-c+-r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+etoile-k+&search=1

That's the Tiffany one but I imagine you can get similar in any jewellers. Bluenile.co.uk do one that costs significantly less (http://ie.bluenile.co.uk/diamond-ring-platinum_13898)

I've also seen women wearing one thickish band encrusted with rows of little diamonds. However, I have no notion of how much one of them would cost!

There are some lovely eternity rings with diamonds and details. e.g.

It seems rose gold is quite common for more detailed eternity rings, but I've seen them in white gold too.

Oh that's funny to me! I didn't want an engagement ring, but we got claddagh rings as our wedding rings. So it looks like I did get an engagement ring after all, despite not knowing it until now...:)

    Thanks for the suggestions!
Lashing Lady, those diamond studded bands look like the perfect combined engagement-wedding ring! A wedding band with diamonds to represent the traditional engagement diamond. Simple and classic.

They are really beautiful & unusual rings Gatica. I just assumed I'd go for a band because its traditional and never even thought beyond that. Its definitely given me food for thought!
