Hi, can anyone tell me how I could confirm if a septic tank complies with building regulations / bye-laws at the time if it was built in the 1970's? Were there regs / bye-laws that had to be adhered to and if so, how do I get access to them? The house is in Co. Clare.
There is an engineers report being done on the house and I'd like to have some information on that aspect of it before the report is done, just incase there is an issue on distance from the house.
I'm going to need access to the actual bye-laws or building regs so that I can refute any information to the contrary.
    Thanks for any replies.

SR6, which was the first guidance, came in to force in 1977 I think. You'll need the exact year of construction to be sure what the requirments were. I'm not sure if there were any national standards pre 1977, although the local health boards were responsible for framing the requirements in some areas. If there's a copy of the original planning permission on file, you may get some information there.
