Heading to Us on friday and its my first time ever being out of europe. Just wondering is it 2 or 3 hours you have to be in the airport before the flight for an international flight.

I guess it depends what airport your flying from and if your bothered about seats on the plan.I usually fly from Shannon and give it 2 - 2.5hrs, so I can be guaranteed I'll be sitting next to my partner, preferably closer to the front of the plane. Also security is usually quite fast....

Its been a while since I flew from Dublin so I dont know how long it can take to get through security.

    Hi m.j.w

I am flying Thursday (Continental) and I am going to give myself 3 hours if I can as I would rather be the other side of both security and immigration and sipping a cold beer rather than trying to rush to the boarding gate as I hav'nt flown from terminal 2 yet.

By the way,I just looked at one of your other posts about baggage allowance and from what I have seen you are only allowed 1 peice up to 23kg and any extra case is charged at $70.
Just to be on the safeside I would give them a call on that one.

I am a bit anal about being in the airport on time, but I would always leave 3 hours for a trans-atlantic flight. There can be a queue for immigration in addition to all the usual check in/security queues. When we flew to Newark last year, we were taken into a room for an extra baggage check so I was glad we had left ourselved the extra time. Do yourself a favour, give yourself 3 hours, better an hour too early than a minute too late. You can have a pooch round duty free or have a drink if you have time to kill and you can board your plane cool, calm and collected rather than rushing around like a blue arsed fly!

Re baggage, if you are flying Aer Lingus on the lowest fare ticket, you are allowed one checked bag at 23kg, extra bags are €40 (I presume each way). You are allowed carry on luggage of up to 10kg. If you booked on a flexi fare, you are allowed 2 bags at 23kg each.
