    10.00am to 4.00pm - Sunday 11 September.

It's an open "route", not a race. But they do ask you to register on their site - http://www.goskyride.com/dublin

Map below and they put it on Google Maps too.

Finally, a chance to smack Nicky Byrne round the ear!

    "That's for Westlife!"

Should have my single speed up and running by then, just waiting on the forks, which arrived in the local post office today, so I'll have them tomorrow.

There should be a boardsie presence there, all in the gear. It would be appropriate. :)

    From the FAQ...

"All participants will be given a free hi-visibility bib, look out for bib distribution points within the activity area."

Already it's better than the Sky Ride in Clare:)

Looking forward to this - hoping to complete the course in less than 12 minutes:D

On a serious note, hopefully the weather will be kind for a bit of pottering about with the kids.

When offered hi-visibility anything, some participants will smile and cycle on.

i'm getting a father jack moment
Mrs. Doyle: Now what do you say to a hi-vis bib?
Father Jack: Feck off, hi-vis bib!

anyone fancy setting up a boards team for this with the 8km to be completed in tt mode, with single file at a good pace.

I'll lend you my MTB with the ice-spike tyres if you feel like "accidentally buzzing" his legs. Repeatedly. I'll even sharpen them up for you.
Would ride it myself but I'll be Alton Towers that day instead. Ah well.

Might bring the kids along. A day out is a day out. My middle one is very competitive and will want to 'win'. Anyone got a Boards Jersey that will fit a 6 year old girl? She already has a pink bike.

Anybody thinking it'll be too hard to get to the Sky Ride, if you live anywhere near a train station, remember Irish Rail allow bicycles on Dart and Commuter trains for free.

Grand Canal Dock is the closest station to the route and Connolly and Pearse are also within walking distance from the route...

Bicycles on Commuter and DART Trains

Bicycles are allowed on Commuter and Dart services between 10:00 and 15:30 and after 19:00 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Customers are asked to stay with their bicycles in the vestibules at all times and ensure they do not allow their bicycles to become a nuisance to other passengers. The provision of bicycles on Commuter and Dart services is at the discretion of station staff. Bicycles that are folded and covered can be carried on all Commuter and Dart services with no time restrictions.

If you are travelling with your bicycle please note the following.
    • Customers should dismount from bicycles when they are in the stations on the platforms
    • Customers should use accessibility ramps and lifts rather than stairs within stations
    • Customers should stay with their bicycles onboard trains
    • Unaccompanied children cannot bring bicycles onto trains
    • No motorised bicycles are allowed on trains
    • No bicycles with attached trailers are allowed on trains

I would honestly pay money to see a guy in full triathlon mode TT'ing up and down the course, with a self satisfied look of triumph on his face as he burns past families in hi-vis that started six minutes ahead of him. :D

you would have to turn round and do a 'loser' sign as you burnt past a 4 year old with stabilisers as well

Just waiting for somebody to say, "This furthers the idea that cycling is inherently dangerous and whole streets need to be closed down to ensure it is done safely"

Tara, Connolly and Pearse will bring you as close or closer to the route as Docklands would, but yeah the lifts can be a bitch.

With children at least, I'd recommend Pearse or Connolly over Tara. The gap caused by the curve at Tara won't help with taking bikes on and off the train.

I was planning on making my 12 yr old daughter ride in from Maynooth with me - is that wrong?

Can I be my cynical old self and ask what is the point of the Sky Ride?

    Publicity for Sky?

    Annoy drivers?

Prove cyclists need marshalls, barriers etc in order to cycle safely through the city?

Excuse to give a few z list celebs a few bob?

Make Dublin City Council feel good about efforts for cyclists?
