Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me,
My laptop suddenly decided to stop working, I'm not sure why
When i turn it on the green light turns on and the screen stays black and it starts beeping repeatedly until i hold down the power button and turn it off

I have a lot of valuable information on it, Is there any way i can save it?
If i install window 7 on it or something, would that delete everything on my laptop?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Check this site for what the beeps mean.

    http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

You could take your hard drive out (easier from a laptop) and put it in a caddy. That way you can hook it up via usb to another machine and get your files back.

Does it get to the BIOS screen? If not my moneys on

    1) RAM is f*cked

    2) GPU needs reballing

    3) Inverters on in the screen..[ not likely since its beeping]

    Hope this helps.

    Jack :]

PS having actually read your comment and not skimmed it my moneys on RAM! that it out see if it boots then.

Possibly loose memory, re-seat and try again

Check your keyboard for stuck buttons.

If you had a flash drive plugged in when you last powered off try plugging it back in.

You don't say how old the unit is, the symptoms could also refer to a misfiring graphics card/adapter

    Dear AVD,
Your laptop is beeping because something is wrong with it. If you expecting any specific advice, please provide what model of laptop is it and how this beep sounds like (example: long beep= "-" short beep= ".").

All of your data is safe in your hard drive. You can copy it from laptop's hard drive using USB- SATA adaptor. Don't panic :)

Do you now how much it would cost to repair?
Or would it be worth my while at all?
Was thinking about just taking out the hard drive and using that as an external hard drive
Is this difficult to do myself or should i get someone to do it for me?
also does anyone know how much it would cost?
Thanks a lot for the replys guys :)

Some LT's have a flap underneath, open the screw, should be easily accessable. Well worth getting someone with a bit of tech know-how to have a look, remove HD then sell on adverts with discription of fault and recoupe some cash back.

AVD how much? it's hard to say for this moment. There is few things need to be check on mainboard. I would say from €60 up to €160 in worst case.

Is that to repaire the motherboard or to take out the hard drive?

    Mainboard repair.
You can take hdd out and connect it to any computer by yourself. You just need sata 2 usb adapter.

Ok i just looked at a video on youtube on how to take out your hard drive and Ive taken it out,
What do i need to connect it to my computer?

Could someone put up a link of something on ebay or some other site that i could buy it off that's compatible with a hard drive from a dell inspiron 1501? :)
