Advice needed for overcoming anxiety

I am beginning to feel that I have a serious problem with anxiety. I have a fast heartbeat and I feel like I am going to have a panic attack a couple of times a day.

There are numerous reasons behind this; all of my friends have left the country, my girlfriend will be going back to college on the other side of the country soon, I have no job and feel completely lost and lonely.

Every day I feel bad. Its a horrible feeling and I dont know what to do. I am going to try and meet a psychotherapist because I dont think I can overcome it on my own any time soon.

Does anyone have some advice for me?

Talk to your GP immediately. He/She is best placed to advise and there may be medicine that helps.

I hope your situation improves quickly, good luck.

Go to your doctor. They are the best person to advise you on what you should do.

Best to go to your gp for piece of mind. I've suffered with it for years and I remember bad panic attacks where my heart was racing and all was fine after but you can never be sure and you should never take chances when it comes to your physical health. Good luck!

Get help before it manifests into something bigger. I made the mistake of ignoring it and then I ended up with an acute attack and made some horrible mistakes. Treat it now while you can :) GP and therapy. Wont be easy but good luck :) We're all here if you need us!

I experienced it last winter for the first time and it's horrible when it kicks in. I found Paul Mckenna's book Instant Confidence was very good for me, Luckily I got at it early and it passed when the book lifted my way of thinking.

Before I experienced it first hand I never really believed it was as damaging as people would say. I honestly thought people were over reacting when describing it and panic attacks. Man was I wrong... The sooner you act the better.

Go to your GP. It took me a long time to realize that I had to, leading to some terrible mistakes that just cannot be rectified.

Once you do this and get that sorted, figure out what is making you anxious! Go job hunting, take up yoga - honestly, it helps! I genuinely wish I had taken it up years ago!

Thank you all for your messages and support. I am going to my GP later on to get some help. Right now I feel pretty bad but its not debilitating by any means and I dont want it to reach that stage if possible.

I have posted on the Personal Issues thread before and I am always thankful for the people who post on here, kindness is a rarity these days but its nice to know that people are still good.

It's one of the most terrifying things one has to overcome.
I suffered with it, more so when i drank, aka next day hangovers made it 10x as bad.

Especially when you drink red bull as the heart races anyway and if you're a worrier like I am then it adds to the effect.

I got over it by simple NOT drinking spirits, realising that the only one making my body do this was me, and my mind.

I read a very simple tactic here that works for me each and every time i feel one coming on, relax. STOP what you're doing tell yourself you will beat this then INHALE counting to 7 and EXHALE counting to 7.

Has worked WONDERS panic subsides in a matter of a few and i go back to my daily routine.

just so you know this was not a small thing for me, I've ended up in hospital with them and how much it freaked me out, it stopped me going out doing socialable activities.

But im better now and you will be to.
