i just have a query for anyone that wears Orthotics , I was diagnosed with tibialis posterior dysfunction (that is the muscle that controls the arch). It is overworked and now strained because I have over-pronated subtalar joints . Anyway I now were Orthotics full time , when I first got Orthotics I was wearing Asics 2150's for running , but a guy in a sports shop done a gait analysis ( not on a threadmill, scanned feet etc ) and informed me that I had to much support with 2150's and Orthotics . So he suggested Asics gel nimbus 12's which are great ( neutral and support ) , In Elverys yesterday looking at new runners and the Lady suggested that I do a proper gait analysis ( Elverys use threadmill , camera etc ) as she said I should still be using 2160's which are obviously structured and support . Anyone have similiar experience ? would like to hear from anyone who has

Hmmm, i don't believe the 2160 are netural and you need them when wearing Orthotics. I use Orthotics and wear Nimbus, actually just about to order a new pair right now:D

Hi Elvis, thanks for reply. No I wear Gel nimbus 12's at present , Lady in Elverys suggested Asics 2160 , but just wondering as before will 2160's might have to much support , Intend on getting Gel nimbus 13's when I can afford them .

If you wore the 2160 you wouldn't have the Orthotics, right ???

2160 is the new 2150. So no you shouldn't wear it with your orthotic. It will still provide too much support. Orthotics are designbed to provide enough support and should 9/10 times be placed in neutral shoes ie Nimbus. Which incidently is currently Nimbus 13.

I have to laugh at some one in Elverys suggesting 'proper' gait analysis.

Hi Elvis , Girl in Elverys said that I should still wear orthotics in 2160's ?? gotta run , I take it you dont believe in Elverys doing gait analysis ? I presume that Asics gel nimbus 13's would be proper runner to purchase , after using gel nimbus 12's Guys ??

Hi Gottarun, would you suggest any other brand for running that would be similar to Nimbus 13's ? that you may have tried ?

The 2160 is the same shoe as the 2150, just a season on exactly the same as Nimbus 13 is the new Nimbus 12. There are minor changes each season but essentially the same shoe as predecessors.

I'm laughing at the concept that 'proper' gait analysis is done in Elverys as opposed to other specialist running shops. My experience & check the forum threads (for other views) shows it can be very hit & miss.

Ask the person who designed your orthotic what running shoe they will recommend for use with your orthotic. They have designed it for a particular function and should be able to guide you in the right direction. Generally a neutral shoe goes with orthotics and anything that fits your foot and the orthotic should suit.

Particular orthotic friendly shoes are Brooks Dyad and Mizuno Rider / Creation as they are deeper shoes with more volume so they prevent your foot lifting out of the shoe. The ASICS Nimbus and Cumulus also work for shallower orthotics.

I wear orthotics too and have found that when I neglect my core strength I need support shoes and when I don't I use neutral shoes. Just goes to show how much your core can influence your gait.

In my experience gait analysis is better done on a hard flat surface than a treadmill. I know that Amphibian King offer this as that's where I get my shoes from. I suspect other posters might be able to point to other shops that offer the same service.

I normally wear Kayano during the day and my Nimbus with the insoles when i run. I've found it works for me and i get the support during the day with comfort and then with my Nimbus and insoles i get what i need on the road. On saying my Nimbus are feeling worn i need to replace them to have new ones broken in properly for DCM.

Neutral shoes generally work best with orthotics. Unless, your orthotics have been designed for a specific running (there's a place in UK that does this).
I personally have found Brooks Glycerin 8 works best with mine. The best thing to do is try out as many different brands and models with your orthotics and see which work best fior you.

Apart from what person in sports shop said, had you noticed ongoing problems with shoes physios recommended or has the change to the shop recomended ones brought about a change ? I stopped wearing the orthotics I was prescribed as they seemed to be giving me pain in the leg during the day and there wasnt any real improvement in the running condition I had got them to alleviate.
