Ok I'll run through what I have first.

I had sky(before the hd/plus days) and cancelled subscription after a year. I then tuned in the the british fta channel and watched RTE through an aerial.

I now want to avail of the saorview service throught the satellite but my old sky box boesn't do MPEG4.

My question is I want to receive both saorview and FTA british channels using by existing satellite system but upgrading my digital receiver box to receive both. I have asked in Currys but they could not recommend a box that would receive both. Can someone please advise

Also I would like to put this in several rooms in the house iof you could advise on that also.

Saorview channels are not available on Satellite at present .... and when they do come on Sat - named as SaorSat - they will need a different setup to what you have.

The best choice presently is to use the present Sat receiver set up for the FTA Sat channels and an aerial for the Saorview channels.

You can then use the present Sat receiver and a DTT receiver, or get a new combo receiver with inputs for both, or even a modern TV with Saorview DTT tuner and the Sat receiver.

Bottom line .... Saorview is aerial only; Saorsat is not yet on line (being tested) and there is no consumer equipment available to receive it as yet.

A popular combi receiver is the Ariva 120 .... see threads about it in Terrestrial.
