Looking for a high end gaming laptop!

So a friend of mine came to me asking about what would be the best gaming laptop for his price range for gaming. He has a budget of 1,700-1,800 or so, but it can go over that a little bit if needed. I don't have much knowledge of current laptops so I said I'd ask here to see if someone here could lend a helping hand.

Basically what he's told me is he wants a laptop with a bulky HDD for music ect and 3D ready gfx, basically so the laptop will see him through the next year of games at least, being able to run most games which will be coming out relatively to very well.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    What size?
for that budget you can get a serious machine from MSI, Asus or Chevo (re-badged).

I have been looking myself, plan on buying later this year or early next. From looking at http://www.notebookcheck.net/ and a few other sites these makes/models keep re-appearing. So they must be doing something right.

    For 17"
MSI GT780 has an unreal specs if you want to just throw money at this. Meant to have unreal sound system for a laptop!
Asus G74SX. This model has a 3D Display, but there are some other configurations you should check out. Regarded as the best cooling in a laptop, probably the only one here that wont sound like an engine when you are actually gaming.
Kobalt Systems (Chevo) G170. You can configure this to pretty much anything you want. But they are pricey...
Dell Alienware M17x. Alienware were always over priced for their desktops but I believe their notebooks are reasonable (when you are expecting this kinda spec).

    15"
Basically the 15" Chassis of above
Alienware M14x, Asus G53, MSI GT680 or Kobalt Systems G150.

You can also get 18" at this price range too, but that is really just a complete desktop replacement...

There are a few other makes too for high-end custom built laptops like Eurocom and Rock.

All of these are for creating 'gaming' laptops. But its possible to play a lot of games with GPU's like GT540m or GT555m and the ATI versions. You can configure a Dell XPS 17 with one of those for a lot less. Or other makes too like levono or Acer. Have a look through here for GPU comparisons and actual benchmarks of all the mobile cards.

Keep in mind too, its a lot cheaper to update the RAM/HDD afterwards then it is when configuring it from the likes of Dell.

    Hope this helps.

That has a RRP of 2800$ and only has a GT555m in it! WTF? Thats only seen as a mid-range mobile graphics card.
You could get an GTX580 in SLI for that kinda price ... or alternatively get a dell XPS with the same card for half!

Looks pretty though :) A lot better design then same others (...alienware)
