Getting married outside your parish

    Hi,

Does anyone have any experience getting married outside their parish by a Catholic priest? We're thinking about getting married in Wexford (my OH is from the North and I'm Dublin), we've been told that its difficult to get a priest in Wexford when your not living there to marry you and so we may have to bring our own.

Did anyone ever have any difficulties arranging this sort of thing?

    Thanks a mill

Me and the wife had planned to have a catholic wedding in camolin, both of us originally from dublin, we had found a church in a little town that we liked, got the ok from the priest but he refused to marry us, saying that we would have to get a priest from one of our own parishs, in the end we went for a civil wedding bacause of the amount of extra organisation and "donations" needed to get everything done. If you are having trouble finding a church pm me and ill mail you on the details of the priest we dealt with, nice helpful man but just that the costs and organisation was to much for us.

I dont know about Wexford, but we are getting married in a different parish and we just had to do the following:

    1) Register the marriage
    2) Obtain letters of freedom from any church we have lived near for more than six months after we were 16.
    3) Pre marriage course
    4) Local parish completed the pre marriage paperwork (were going to see him tomorrow to get this completed)

Were looking that a family member will say the mass, but i think its quite normal that the local parish priest where you are getting married will say the priest. You may have to provide a donation to the church and to the priest.
