    hi all,
49ers fan here if it makes any difference (lived there with my parents for a while during the joe montana and jerry rice era) :) anyway i'm wondering if its possible to get american football helmet visors in ireland?? and if anyone uses them here can you please tell me if its possible to fit one into a hurling helmet?!?! our keeper is having major trouble with the sun when we play at home as the pitch means he gets the full glare if its an evening match and american football is the only sport where i can think that they have something to combat this. i don't think sunglasses are practical in the helmet and he doesn't wear contacts so after racking my head an american football helmet visor is all i can come up with!! so if you can help me then let me know below, thanks!!

To answer your questions nope and it definitely wont fit. You could try squeeze it into a Hurling helmet but the shape would be all wrong. Maybe buying one and making changes to it yourself might be worth a try but they are expensive to buy in the first place.

As the NCAA and High Schools have banned the Visors that are shaded they have become hard to get in Europe as most European Leagues you aren't allowed to use them anymore either so they market is now for the clear ones which dont stop the sun.

Only place I could find them was here:

    http://outlet.dk/group/54/player-equipment-accessories-helmets-eyeshields.aspx

They are a good store used them a few times but if the visor doesn't fit it would be a waste of €50 if they wont take it back.

Edit: On second thoughts it will be a tight fit and you would have to jury rig up some way to hold it in there but it would be worth a gamble.

Don't know if you noticed my edit but it could be worth the gamble if you have the cash. Looking at the shape it might actually fit in there. You would have issues with holding it in place but if you know anyone handy with fixing things ye never know. :D

Well in High schools and College in the US its all to do with Paramedics being able to see the players eyes when he is down injured. If they have the mask in it means the Paramedics cant see their eyes and would have to move the visor, but moving a visor while attached to the facemask would run the risk of moving the players head which is a bad idea if he hurt his neck or spine.

So the NFHS and NCAA banned them. The Pros still use them though.

I think he was referring to where I said they were banned in High Schools and Colleges. Besides the the NFL ruling is as loose as XXXXXXXL Shirt on Danny Woodhead.

I know what the rule is and as you can see it was formed in 1998. But as I said its loose. Easy as a guy with millions of dollars to find a doctor who will sign a consent form for you. Its been known that many players who use tinted visors have nothing wrong with their eyes where they actually need to go to the extreme and wear tinted shades for them.

Where as in college and high school there is no exemption at all.

a long shot - but would an american football helmet be allowed in a hurling game

and then you'd have no problems with it fitting at least....

probably wouldn't meet the specifications needed for hurling would it??? I don't know anything about hurling so :o
