    Hi,

Currently have UPC digital tv supplied to the apartment via the UPC outlet that came with the apartment. I'm looking to move to Saorview and get rid of UPC.

My TV is not Saorview compatible so im assuming I need a set top box(correct?)

Will a Saorview set top box work if I plug it into the UPC socket or do I need another type of aerial (can only be an indoor one if i do, no sat dishes etc allowed)?

PS Apt is in the East Wall area and has good Saorview coverage (a/c to the Saorview site).
    thanks

Eventhough a TV isn't Saorview approved/compatible it may have an MPEG-4 video decoder which will allow it to receive the Saorview channels. Check the spec in the TV's manual for DVB-T and MPEG-4 video decoding. If not a Saorview set-top will be required.

What is the TV model no.?

Saorview is only available thru an aerial connected directly to the TV or STB, the UPC cable connection will not work.

An indoor aerial may or may not work, depending on where the aerial is located and reception can be prone to interference. Try a cheap €2 one first.

This would be a more discreet outdoor aerial - http://www.tvtrade.ie/digidome-outdoor-tv-aerial.html

Its a new enough Philips LCD, 42PFL9664. Had a look at the specs and it looks like it supports the following:
    Digital TV: DVB Terrestrial*, DVB-T MPEG4*, DVB-C MPEG4*
so I guess I dont need a set top box then. Excellent.

Any two pronged aerial will do here? Presuming the aerial plugs straight into the tv, i should be able to tune in the saorview channels using the tv channels directly?

Try out an internal aerial but no guarantees I'm afraid. Do a digital scan on the TV it'll find them if the aerial works.
