    Hi,

I was getting into the shower and had my phone in my pocket. I'm not sure if its from water damage or from dropping me jocks on the bathroom floor, but now my phone screen doesnt turn on properly.
It does turn on, but its just these weird lines down it.

I'm gonna leave it to dry for a while, then charge it later to try heat it up, but in the meantime I've to start looking for a replacement screen on eBay. How much should I be looking to spend on this screen? Or any tips to try fix it?

Its the original HTC Desire. Not sure what screen but I'm thinkin its the newer one coz its a PVT-4 and I only got it new in February.

    Thanks.

Put it in with a ziplocked bag of rice and if its water damaged then the rice will dry it out.
Don't know about screen replacement. There's a place in bray that fixes phones and they are supposed to be top class.

DIY? I done this awhile back. My screen had lines on it to. Done it myself, but might not suit everybody...

Ye I'll probably just replace it myself.
Out of curiosity, how do I find out if its a SLCD or AMOLED? Or are both compatible?

How much would I want to be paying for a screen? I've seen on eBay screens ranging from 30 euro to 130 euro!

I paid about £35 delivered from this outfit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-HTC-Desire-G7-SLCD-Screen-Display-Module-SONY-/120708962980

For some reason the price is gone up to £80! AYECARUMBA!

I opened up my phone to check what screen I had using the guide on the above listing. Turns out I had an SLCD

Thing is, I emailed HTC and they said I had an amoled screen!! HTC wrong.....me right! Double check this before you buy anything...

Just thinking, its under warranty, so I might just bring it into Meteor. The screen wont come on so they wont be able to see its rooted with custom rom etc.

What would happen if I sent it off, they fixed it, and then noticed it had a custom ROM on it? Will they care, since its a hardware issue?

Its not under warranty if its water damage...

Bring it into them and see, but its most likely water damage and therefore not under water damage.

    have you the phone insured?

After having a look at it over the last few days, I'm not convinced it is water damage. If I send it away, and they find it is water damage, then what do they do, just send it back to me?

Nah, I'm not insured on the phone.

I contacted HTC via Facebook and put the reply up here:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17095617#post17095617

They basically said they'll fix it if the problem isnt caused by rooting/modding, but they'll take it on a case by case basis.

I've sent it away anyway so if they fix it, then thats great, but if not, I'll resort to fixing it myself and i'll follow up on the guides here.

Got me phone back today, no bothers. Screen replaced, all working fine!
They wiped it and reinstalled Android though, so i just have to re-root etc again.
