Hope this is the right thread. I'm getting a new TV soon and the tv I'm thinking of getting is the 42inch Panasonic P42C3B Plasma 600Hz. It says on Powercity.ie (http://powercity.ie/?par=10-13-P42C3B&pages=1&prod=P42C3B&brands=PANASONIC&image=) that it supports Irish digital tv. Will this be fine so for tuning in Irish stations on digital or do I need a saorview tv for that?

Although it's not Saorview approved it should display the Saorview channels no problem. Have no reason to doubt Powercity on this.

Not sure about MHEG-5 digital text.

If you can, pop into Powercity and check out one on display.

The replacement for the traditional analogue teletext on Saorview, looks something like this when displayed on TV - http://www.rte.ie/aerteldigital/desktopxhtml/100-1.html

The next time you're in a TV store press the text button on the Saorview RTÉ2 HD channel, if you get text displayed it'll be MHEG-5 Digital Aertel. It takes a little time to load depending on the TV but you see a little graphic "loading" in the bottom RH corner until it loads.

It's a mandatory requirement for Saorview approved products. Some non approved TVs have it others don't.

Hi i have a different question i'm still trying to get my head around all this new tech. We have a sony computer with a built in tuner. Its says its
Digital and analogue TV - DVB-T

Will this still work without a external box, when analogue reception is done away with?

Digital TV is available now with an aerial, if you have one plug it in. If it displays channels like RTÉ News Now and 3e you'll know it works. If there is only sound and no video then it's not suitable.

If it's a PC, then the "Sound but no picture" issue is not likely. If it does arise, you just need to install software with the correct codec. If you can get the tuner to tune, then you will get TV with the correct software.

Yes, software update should solve any such problem unlike a TV or STB.
