    I'v been told we could done. A cousin wifes parent are meant of been part of the italiana mafia.

    Yeah, I'm pretty sure there was. I think you're supposed to actually call it the Irish Mob, as opposed to the mafia. The term 'mafia' is a Sicilian term, I believe. I'm pretty sure the Irish Mob came into being in the early to mid 19th century, which would pre-date the Sicilian or Italian Mafia. I think though the Irish Mob was based more in Boston, rather than New York, and the rise of people like Al Capone made the Italian Mafia much more notorious, which would be why people would be more inclined to associate American organised crime with Italians (as well as the abundance of movies and TV shows about the mafia).

    Yup, The Hell's Kitchen area of New York had some infamous Irish mobsters. In the late Seventies, the Genovese mafia family backed out of a brewing war with the Irish Westies gang in Hell's Kitchen.
