Looking for a few opinions from the Boards community!
What do you think is the best/nicest overnight stay in Ireland? Excluding departure point which would be Dublin!
I'd consider countryside, nice place to stay and a lovely place to eat and drink as important factors in a destination. I'd be open to a city-break idea too though.

    Thanks for any recommendations!

really depends on what you are looking for, westport on a friday-saturday night for craic, nightlife maybe climb croagh patrick if the day is fine and clear

galway city is just buzzing night and day and with the students back now next week even more so, day trip to either the burren/cliffs of moher or the aran islands while there

killarneys a really beautiful part of the world, kenmare about 20 miles down the road is much cheaper to stay but you get to see the exact same stuff ;)

carrick on shannon is a nice town, you can go on the cruise down the river shannon, best time to hit carrick is again friday or saturday http://www.moonriver.ie/

as far as countryside most of west and north (inishowen) donegal is spectacular

THanks for the ideas! Donegal sounds ideal. I should have been more specific - not looking for nightlife; but villages, scenery and good food. Oh, and not more than 3 hrs from DUblin. I like your Shannon idea too. THanks!

I was really impressed with Tankardstown House near Slane in Meath. Lovely spot, nice restaurant, and close to tourist attractions. Can be expensive.

Thanks Dudara. I just had a look at their website, it looks amazing! It is on the expensive side but seems quite a treat.

Night out in Carrick-on-Shannon, it's a great place

Then to chill the next day, take a boat out on the Shannon

Been suggested already, I'll second it

Connemara. Renvyle House would be perfect imo. http://www.renvyle.com/
