They are no longer accepting VISA debit at the M4 Enfield toll plaza. Got caught out today with no cash. Annoying because VISA sign is still on the window of the hut.

Well well well, kinda cuts the feet out from under the likes of PTSB and the rest of the innovative, customer focused Irish Banking system.....so much for the much broader acceptance across the world etc etc etc.....oh and in small print..."Enfield excepted" !!!!

If they advertise visa in a manner to mislead a reasonable person that they would accept visa that's a criminal offence, so I wouldn't pay, and call them on it

I would imagine they still accept actual Visa cards, just not Visa Debit cards which have been fraudulently advertised by banks as "accepted anywhere Visa is". When they aren't. Just the vast majority of them.

Sole acceptance advantage over a Laser card is the UK, where 70% or so of businesses have units that think Maestro cards with 19 digits aren't real; unfortunately it seems Laser is dying in favour of VD.

One question is this the main toll bridge or the smaller bridge heading into Enfield

So if someone wants to pay by Laser or Visa must they go through the whole process of putting in pin numbers etc like a transaction in a shop???

A Visa Debit card can be put through as a normal Visa card if the terminal doesn't specifically see it as a debit card. Certainly online I just use my debit card if the site asks for visa, haven't had to use my credit card since I got the thing. I'd imagine the problem lies with the operator behind the terminal rather than the terminal itself. I did have problems with the debit card in a shop in Austria but they also didn't accept chip & pin credit cards.

Not everywhere online takes them either. DCC's payments - done by Capita -didn't at one point for instance.

Banks promote them as if they are a Visa credit card on your current account when they aren't
