Funds Industry Jobs

I have worked in the funds industry since leaving college with a generalised degree for the past 4 years. I HATE it. My experience is one of long hours, stressful work, long hours and not huge pay for what you do. I get zero job satisfaction out of the job. I find it mind numbing. I am looking at re-training in order to leave the industry.

Does anybody out there find work in the funds industry satisfying? What areas of it do people find better to work in than others if I were to transfer to a different side of it. I work in Transfer Agency.

    Thanks

    Try compliance

It's interesting and you keep up to date with new developments
For example, some places won't deal with Iran

Or might have policies about sports betting or arms dealing
You'll probably be giving courses to the staff too, good way to build up the confidence at public speaking

Best way to get into it is stay in your company and try for a transfer
    Institute of bankers run courses

I feel your pain I used to work for a Hedge Funds company up until the end of July then I got laid off! I worked in the IT side of things it's a tough business for sure. Although I worked on the IT side I know alot of the people on the business side of things wished they where doing something else. I think your better off doing a part-time course at night, hold onto your job until your finished off course :D

I get you. The same thing happened to me. You can get out! A few options:

    1) Do an MBA if you'd like to switch industries/roles. What's your passion?

    2) Any savings? Quit work and travel. Fund jobs are relatively easy to come by and you can always go back to that role as a 'fail-safe' after travel or if you cant find the job you want.

    3) Avail of company-subsidised educational assistance. Do industry exams. I did the CAIA (chartered alternative investment analyst) designation and loved it. It is very specific to alternative investments (hedge funds etc) and enabled me to understand the strategies of our client's funds. The job became much more interesting. Also, you could look at the CFA if you want a broader finance designation.

    4) See if your company will transfer you to another country. Maybe a change of scenery and lifestyle will help.
