    Hi there,

If you have been married recently, we would love to hear from couples and get their feedback on their wedding bands.

The survey will only take a few mins, its just a few quick questions for you to tick answers for, no long essays to fill out!

    [SNIP]

    We'd greatly appreciate your help

    Regards

    Damien

By the looks of it seeing if he/she can set up a site to charge €20 to see if the band you want is free!

    No thanks!

IMO No independently run band will give a random site or agent access to their diary. You can enquire about a particular date, sure, but thats it.

Just taking dublin for example. How many wedding bands are in dublin alone? 100-150? Any given agent with bands on his books may have a small selection of those bands. So if you go through an agent you are only going to get visibility of that agents bands, limiting your selection.

Theres at least 4-5 agents in dublin who send out "are you free on a particular date" emails. They make their money on the booking of the band. Half the bands dont even reply to these as the agents sending out the requests have their own preferred bands and they make a bigger percentage on the booking.

Theres at least 5 dedicated websites who make their money from the bands on advertising. You dont have to look to hard to find them and send a few emails.

Theres another 5 websites who are dedicated to weddings who make their money on advertising. see above to find them

I cant see any couple paying to see whos free, or at least if anyone did, not enough to make money out of it.

Why wouldnt a band let someone see their diary? For example, if a band has gigs booked in for Friday and Saturday for the next 10 weeks, why would they be scared to share that information with anyone?

Some bands post their upcoming gigs on their websites and others, when asked if they are free to play weddings, will send an entire upcoming gig list to the couple so the couple can decide if they want to go and see them play.

If you ask me if I'm free next friday, I'll tell you, if you want to view for a booking, I'll give you 4-5 dates over the next few weeks which are suitable (I may be gigging in galway you may live in cork), ask me for my diary for next year, I can guarantee you it'll be out of date by the end of the week. The information will be wrong and all that entails from that.

Its a nice idea you have and I'm not against it in principle (its been tried before), but try ringing 50 random bands, googles your friend there, tell them your idea for your business and ask them for their diaries for next 2 years and see how you get on. IMO after 20 years in the business, you wont get them.

I actually do wish you well in your venture (if its yours), I just don't see it working.
