How does the 3G aspect work? Do you have to pay any fee? I'm going to Colombia and then Canada for over 12 months so should the 3G auto work when I travel if I don't purchase any books?

The 3G will activate when there's no wifi it can use (i.e. out of range, or not set up to a network), and is completely free for purchases, BUT you will get charged if you e-mail yourself a document to get delivered to your kindle over 3G. This charge does not apply over wifi. Doesn't look like much coverage in Columbia:

Oh, and yes, it works automatically.

    Does that include web browsing.

I haven't used it on the 3G, but according to their description it's free:

WebKit-Based Browser – Free 3G web browsing (experimental)

It does include web browsing but to be honest anything other than basic e-mail checking and a quick google would do your head in - home or abroad - 3G or WiFi. It's great for purchases from Amazon but once you go into Experimental browser it can be quite slow and difficult to read (mainly because of having to use the 4 way toggle button which is annoying). I've tried it at home, in UK and Portugal and don't have the patience for browser.

I got this one (from Amazon but not an Amazon case): http://www.amazon.co.uk/DURAGADGET-Leather-Adjustable-Graphite-Display/dp/B003Z80IF6/ref=sr_1_1?s=jewelry&ie=UTF8&qid=1314645549&sr=1-1
Worked out about €20 with postage. It's been the same reduced price of £11stg since I got it back in January. I like the platform style as I like to read while eating my lunch (height of laziness I know :) ). I got black, my friend got red after seeing mine. Got to admit the red is lovely.
