Hi my daughter has aspergers syndrome and was just refused disability allowance
she is 16 now and not like other girls of her age because of AS. However, she was just refused disability allowance on the grounds that his condition wouldn't last for longer than a year.In his application her doctor backed it up with a letter telling of my son's problems. I haven't the paperwork to hand so cannot say the exact words, but it was one of those general letters refusing it.she was in receipt of D O M allowance until she was 16 I'm disappointed because I can't see her going to college or working for a very long time yet. We shall appeal, is it to do with the lack of money? And do appeals for AS go through eventually or is it a waste of time. Thanks for anyone who might know.

I can't help you with information unfortunately, but the bit about the authorities reckoning it'll pass in a year is hardly right is it???

Probably more appropriate in Long Term Illness.

I would move it to State Benefits.

Appeal it. S/he can't work and so is entitled to assistance. Reminds me of a friend who was asked (by a similar department) had her daughter been "cured of Aspergers"! We can't expect everyone in these depts to know every condition out there, but unfortunately it just makes the process of claiming what she is entitled to very, very frustrating.

    Good luck.
