I really hope someone can help me out here!!! I'm entering the ICT audit department in Ernst & Young, Dublin, as a graduate and have the choice of which pod I want to enter into. I literally have no idea which one or whats the difference with the pods. I would like to work on big jobs with lots of people I think where the work load is shared and where the hours are reasonable rather than working on smaller teams where you have alot more pressure placed on you. I would probably prefer local jobs rather than heading off to somewhere like shannon or galway! I'm moving to dublin, I dont want to be returning to the west!!! Also which pod would be the best craic!!!! Any info would be really appreciated :)

Also starting in EY soon, but in FS. Any advice on which pod in FS? ( and what type of companies do each pod work on?)

I don't work at E&Y but I've heard their Insurance department be referenced by numerous people as being called 'Costa del Insurance' (as in it's the handiest one of them all and that you actually get to leave at reasonable hours during your contract).

My two cents is to go for that one.

I've heard from other people that who worked there that the Funds department is to be avoided, unless you like working til 8-9 regularly during busy season for no extra pay / time in lieu.

Of course this is all coming from an outsider's perspective...

I think EY refer to their departments as Pods with numbers from 1-9. Like there's an Insurance Pod, a banking Pod, a funds pod etc.

Not sure of ICT but in FS the Pods go 1-5: 1,3,5 being Funds and the other two being Insurance and Banking. The system is there so that rather than having one big FS department you're split into smaller groups (somewhere about 50ish) which are normally overseen by two partners. I've honestly never heard of anyone getting to choose what Pod they were put into though. Generally you're just told during your induction training & that can even be subject to change depending on how your training goes.

Dicey's every thursday should be no problem especially for the first few months until busy season...when are ye all starting anyway?

Never heard of being allowed to pick your pods either, but since you can just stay away from pod 4!..your first few weeks of training will be great craic so enjoy them!
Im actualy not starting until September 2012 after I do the masters in Smurfit, but because the milkrounds will be coming up in october I have to have my say in before then!!!

Ha I know I'm prob an exception but I was originally supposed to go to Limerick but things didnt work out and one of the partners down there got me hooked up in the dublin office because he is good friends with someone in HR or something, and told me to go to ICT and to pick between pod 1-4 and thats where I'll be working! So here I am left with the decision!!! Was nice of Ernst & Young in a way tho.
