    Hi,
Are there any advantages of Having a student Travel card. Wouldn't the Maynooth Student Card give the same discounts? (Except the cheap travel)

Nope, it won't. CIE insist on the student travel card. You cannot obtain discounts on the train or bus networks without it.

I understand that, however, I am talking about discounts other than Travel, like Top Shop, Boots, New Look, Apple etc

I will be driving so the Travel Part is not that important to me.

Apologies, I didn't read your post properly. Never been in a shop that accepted only the student travel card and not a student card but there may be some discounts specific to it that I'm not aware of. The travel card has a website, maybe have a look there. I think it's worth buying as if you ever need to purchase a long distance train or bus ticket for a weekend away or something it can save money.

Boots, very annoyingly, only accept the travel card. I'm not sure of anywhere else that does. In fact, some places will only accept your student card and not a travel card!

Also you don't need a travel card for bus eireann!

if you're interested in going to matches, the GAA only accept the Student Travel Card.

Personally I think it's a disgusting money racket. No reason places shouldn't just accept your official student card.

Wrong. Bus Eireann will accept "Student ID Cards issued by a recognised third-level college in the Republic of Ireland" in addition to the Travelcard. Source

Dublin Bus and Iarnrod Eireann seem to require the Travelcard exclusively, but it's not an across the board thing for CIE.

I wasn't talking about Bus Eireann. In Dublin we call that a coach ;)

What do you call it in Leixlip then?

I'm omnipresent, seen it on the most recent posts and thought I'd throw some abuse

Most high street shops that offer a student discount take the college student card, New Look etc
