Do you mean a certificate of character? Usually a week or so if it was processed straight away.

The Garda Vetting cert takes 6 weeks to 3 months.

I assume it's the cert you need for working with children and such??

Is it not the case that when an individual is arrested, his file (if he has any) can be accessed immediately? I mean if you, John Smith, are arrested for dangerous driving, can't it immediately be spotted if you have been previously convicted for any or similar offences?

If that's the case why should there be a delay?

It all depends on the backlog if you apply for it now you might be lucky to receive a cert in 3 months time. I applied via a college application July 2010 and I eventually received the cert in April the following year. The reason given for the delay 'backlogs' due to all colleges requesting them. Be patient ;)

@kicking king - as an employer you need to be registered as an authorised signatory with the Garda Vetting unit - otherwise you would need to submit forms to someone who is already an authorised signatory.
Once the Vetting Unit receive the forms, its take about 8 weeks to return them to the authorised signatory. Often the delay is from the time you give the forms to the Authorised Signatory and when they actually send them to the Garda Vetting Bureau.
