Im looking to replace a keyboard on an acer travelmate 5720g - a spilt glass of red wine on the keyboard caused a few buttons including the full stop and comma and question mark to stop working - apart from that and discolouration around the bottom of the screen the machine seems fine - is this a job for the professional or can anyone attempt it - where is the best place to buy a replacement keyboard

    Around €20 with postage.

Cant find a disassembly guide but iam sure theres one if you look hard enough. Takes 5 mins to do max! do it yourself

Have just found this thread and am very interested. I have a laptop that had tea spilt on it - again, like the first post there are a few keys that aren't working. Where is the best place for me to bring the laptop to replace keyboard? I live in West Dublin - would PC World be an option? I wouldn't have the know how to replace a keyboard myself.
Is there a chance that the internal workings might be damaged?
Thanks in advance for any reponses.

    Its an easy job.
On most laptops you can flip the keyboard up (there are a couple of tabs above the top row of keys ) using a small flathead screwdriver or something similar.
There will be a ribbon cable attaching the keyboard. This is released by prising the retaining clips outwards (once again with a small flathead screwdriver) and pulling gently.
Replace the keyboard by following the steps backwards.

I have removed and replaced the keyboards of about six different laptops. They were all easy to do and pretty much as described above.

Just take your time and you should be able to do it with no problems.

Yes there is a BIG chance of damage to the internal components of the laptop. PC world will charge you just to look at it! take it to a repair shop with a no fix no fee policy and have them switch out the keyboard if it doesnt work then you dont have to pay. Simples!

Yes, this is the highest level of advance .
You need flat screwdriver to lift up 4 locks and thin guitar plectrum to lift the keyboard.

    So many components to damage...

BTW take battery and power plug out.
