Right so I'm planning to get a bit of japanese tatto work done. But I'm completely stumped on where to go to get it done. I'm from Kilkenny but go to college in Dublin. I already have one tattoo that i got done in JMD in Waterford. And while that's really well done, it cost me €170 when every other quote I got was under €100. I know money shouldn't be an issue with tattoos, and I am completely aware of compromising the design by going for a cheaper artist. But surely there is somebody as good for a bit cheaper no?

Jmd's are good but over priced, have you checked robert in dark raptor in kk beside biddy earlys?

    OP-

I'm from the school of thought that says if you find the right tattooist for the job you have in mind then it's best to wait and save rather than cave and go to someone cheaper in the short term. That said, you've acknowledged you're aware of the possible compromises involved so 'nuff said...

I'm not sure he'll work out any cheaper than JMD's, but the obvious place to consider is White Dragon Tattoo in Belfast. Chris Crook pretty much only does Japanese style tattooing now and he's very, very good. You could hop on the train from Dublin and be back the same evening.

I've been to Dark Raptor, and Robert is very good but his style is far too loose for what I want to get done. You know the way his style is amost sketch like?

I might check out this guy in Belfast though, he sounds great.

Does anybody know about wildkat ink in stephens green?? I've been told they have a Japanese specialist

The hourly rate between jmd and chris crooks is pretty similar afaik, same can prob be said for their waiting lists. For my money I'd go for chris as his work looks better to me. Sometimes artists will price high for pieces they don't want to do really, then if you go elsewhere they don't care and if you pay them the overpriced quote it's happy days. Can't help re wildcat. Nothing on their site?
