Left it kind of late to book the accommodation for NUIG and now corrib village is basically booked out and I'm on a waiting list for Cuirt na coiribe. Anyone have any other recommendations for someone going into first year?

Try getting private accommodation it is alot cheaper. You might not be able to get somewhere great unless you go about very quick. Somewhere near town is the best.

Menlo is student acc. which is supposed to be good, but it is like 25-30 mins away, which would be a pain. Cúirt's security are supposed to be a pain in the ass.

Try Dún na Coiribe its right beside cuirt and gort and its private so would be a lot cheaper.

I was also hoping to book somewhere in Corrib but it was booked up. I am starting a masters this month so looking for a spot. I found a couple of really good deals through a search engine on Campus.ie. Here is the link: Click here It is in conjunction with myhome.ie.

There is a load of availability but nothing in Corrib!

    Good luck!

stories I've heard from Corrib in my last 3 years in Galway....don't live in corrib! Cuirt are good and a bunch of my friends have lived in Menlo over the years and have loved it...but private housing probably is cheaper!

Every year so many people fall for the student accommodation scam. It's totally over priced and completely shit in so many ways. Last year I did a masters in NUIG and I got a pretty cheap apartment in the centre of town, five minute walk from college which I shared with one other. It was great, we got to live like actual adults rather than being treated like kids. Everyone else in my year did the same, there's absolutely no reason to not get private accommodation.

As regards wanting to live in Corrib Village... Don't. I don't know where you have gotten this notion of wanting to live there, considering you're at an age where you are about to do a masters you should know better than going into a place like that. Forget about it and go private.

Corrib Village is definitely worth it if you're first year. It is a massive rip off but at least it's mental craic. Although for some reason the management try their best to prevent it every year, dunno why they don't just realise the place is a kip and let people enjoy themselves. Places like Cuirt and Gort are just as much of a rip off but less craic.

You're extremely lucky to get a 2-bed apartment in such a good location so cheap. Most of them are around 350/mo at least. Then you have to find a landlord who will actually take you, which can be difficult unless you're a 50 year old tee-total female mature student studying Law with glowing references from 5 previous landlords etc
