I went to the dentist today and found out that I have to get my two bottom wisdom teeth removed and one from the top. The only visble tooth is one on the bottom but you wouldnt even know the others are there. Will this mean its going to be more painful as they are deeper down? Im getting it done under local anaesthetic so does this mean I will still be awake and be able to see whats happening? Also what is the average recovery time? I know i should have asked my dentist these things but at the time the thought of talking about it was too much. I would really appreciate any past experiences/advice/tips!!:)

    Hi

i had a toothache(wisdom) last year and went to the dentist for the first time in 20yrs,i have had a phobia since childhood due to not so nice experiences with the dentist that worked on the schoolscheme(thats a whole other thread)
Anyway,i had the pain for weeks and hoped it would go away, went to the dentist he had a look and said it would have to come out:eek:
i asked for pain killers etc. rather than have it pulled,he gave me an appointment for a week later as it had an infection and could not be removed until it cleared up,the following week was one of the worst of my life, couldnt eat, couldnt sleep with the fear,
The day arrived,i went and brought my wife with me(maybe i am a sissy i hear you say)
Dentist came out and asked me into the surgery,i got to his door and froze,i couldnt go any further,i turned and asked my wife if she would come in with me and did the dentist mind(she came in)
he proceeded to tell me what he was going to do as the tears rolled down my face(i was 35)
he gave me 2 injections, they werent nearly as bad as i expected:),
he then proceeded to get the extraction tool ready:eek:
as he approached, more tears rolled down and i thought ok here goes
he reached into my mouth and then stood back,i asked when was he going to remove the tooth,he said he had:)

sorry for telling such a long story, but, after all that worrying and sleepless night in the build up,it was no where near as bad as i had expected.i was eating 24 hrs later

hope everything goes ok for you:D

Hey OP, have you checked out

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055015775&page=23

it should answer all your questions...

Nice to hear that your extraction went well Clintondaly but most lower wisdom tooth extractions take a little longer than that, yours must have been particularly simple... I'm not trying to freak out the op but you should be prepared for a longer session than that. With good local anaesthesia this should be painless.

    Good luck,
    OS

Good man Clintondaly. I was the same as you, absolutely terrified of dentists till a couple of years ago till i just HAD to go after about 10 yrs. . Just convinced myself i had nothing to fear. Have had a couple of sessions since -no problems. Must go again now but dont really mind. Find the treatments have advanced in leaps and bounds over the last few years.

there's wisdom teeth and impacted wisdom teeth which are a different ball game. Some of the pro's may like to expand.

I had 4 impacted w/t taken out in vincents......full op, full g/a.......wouldnt have had it any other way as Id a ton of dissolveable stitches post op.
