    Possible Arsenal line up:

    Sczezney

    Sagna---Djourou--Vermaelen---Traore

    Song
    Rosicky--Ramsey

    Walcott
    van Persie----Gervinho

This is an absolutely massive game for Arsenal if they want to maintain the stature/credibility of the club.
    Predictions?

Arsenal have more than enough to score, and I think they will.

That means Udinese will have to get 3 without reply to progress.

    Arsenal.

Arsenal, with far less problems than the doomsayers would have you believe.

The team named above is pretty good.

I'm sure they'll get through, probably either by a comfy margin or a low score draw.

Who's likely to be on the bench?

    Its on RTE/ITV I think.

Biggest game for the Gunners in many a year. Will it go inkeeping with our summer so far and turn out to be an embarrassing shambles or can this game be the catalyst for our season? I do think we'll score, so fingers crossed.

Team is good, but the mentality isn't at the moment. I fear we are going to get destroyed.

It's also live on ITV 1 guys. This truly is a mammoth game. Come on the Gunners. 1-3 tonight for me.

Fabianski, Jenkinson, Miguel, Frimpong, Arshavin, Chamberlain, Chamakh.

I'd like to see (won't happen though):

    Szczesny
    Sagna
    Djourou
    Vermaelen
    Traoré
    Song
    Frimpong

    Ramsey
    Walcott
    Gervinho
    RVP

Subs: Fabianski, Jenkinson, Miquel, Rosicky, Arshavin, Chamberlain, Chamakh.

Starting both Song and Frimpong is a must for me in this game, considering neither can play against United on Sunday give them a full game and let Ramsey/Rosicky split minutes in order to be fresher. We were completely overrun in midfield last week by Udinese, Song being instructed to sit and not think he's Maradona and Frimpong running around punching people would get us a toe hold in the game. Walcotts there out of necessity, no other real viable options to start ahead of him.

All depends on who gets the first goal.

If its Arsenal then its game over (away goals) but if those pesky Italians get it........... the writing will be on the way as they say in the states

you mean watching ads on tv3, the only station to have nearly 15mins of ads at half time...........
its going to be tough for arsenal tonight, should be interesting.

I think Di Natale will score tonight. That means Arsenal will have to, otherwise, exiting tonight and potentially ending up 8 points behind Man Utd will be the season opening from hell! I just don't know how good Udinese are to see if they can keep the Gunners out or not.

I wonder if Wenger gets the boot if Arsenal don't qualify. I want Arsenal to lose just to see the consequences of failure this season.

    2-1 to Udinese I reckon.

Arsenal have enough to get the job done anyway.

My god they were headwreckers last week, arsenal could do no right, every single thing was critised, i know they havent been the best lately but they won the game and didnt concede... it sounded like they were absolutely trashed 7-0 by crawley town by they way they were going on!

Ah come on, 89 was 22 years ago now and we gave you mickey t.

Really nervous about this one, don't think i can even watch it, 2-1 i reckon our 1 being a poxy 89+ minute theo goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,955 ✭✭✭Paleface

    Very nervous about tonight.

Its not that I don't think Arsenal can win. Its just I can see the match slipping away from them due to injuries and the current morale which must be shot to pieces.

Lets hope Wenger has them fired up and they start brightly. A bad start and they will really struggle. It could be excruciating to watch.

I want Arsenal to lose just to see the consequences of failure this season.

Define failure in a context relating to Arsenal .. You do understand that only one team can win each competition, and you do understand that we are competing against teams with a significantly larger budget than us and also against teams that have almost limitless supply's of capital, which in turn allows them to pay for the services of all the best players in the world.

People still have this grand notion about how big a club Arsenal is and how we should be tripping over silverware, fans getting frustrated at Wenger is not winning anything. But thinking like that is a serious case of living in the past. We are actually not a big club when it comes to what really matters, the bank balance.

The fact that we currently compete at such a high level can only be called one thing "a success". The wheels have already been set in motion with the new stadium and future potential to earn money through sponsorship and other ventures to genuinely take our place as a force in world club football. But until then we need to bide our time. Sure, mistakes are being made but quite often they are being influenced by variables out of the clubs control.

The real FAILURE will be if the fans don't have the balls to accept and realize what is going on. The failure to stand behind the club and support no matter what the situation. The failure (to borrow Munster saying) "to stand up and fight" Some people don't realize what we are up against here, our backs are currently against the wall. But it's not like we have no hope, this path was chosen, a plan put in place. And potential still yet to be realized.

The word failure and Arsenal should not be mentioned together. Sure this season is looking like it's not going to shape up too well, but it's not like we don't have a chance.Maybe silverware looks like a distant dream, but it's not that far away. All we have to do is hang on in their. Their are hundreds of other clubs all over Europe and even some in the Premier League that actually have no chance bar a distant dream of a wealthy investor arriving and pumping large amounts of money in with no regard for return. That begs the question "are all them clubs failing also?".

Arsenal failing .. Don't make me laugh .. The powers that be within the club are far too smart for that..
    :pac:

I'm a Man Utd fan and I'm really looking forward to watching this. It's so unusual to have a match this important, so finely poised, and between two good teams, so early in the season.

I would think not. I'm also sure you could think of a few big reasons for the difference...

I really think this will be a non event. Udinese can be very exposed when chasing games, and I could see Arsenal getting a goal after weathering an initial storm of 10 - 20 minutes, therefore killing the tie.

Other than the fact that our respective teams had been rivals all season back in 89 and we play each other every season.... I'm actually struggling to think of any to be honest

First to score will win the tie imo and Udinese have shown how dangerous they can be, I think they were unlucky to come away empty handed in the first leg.

It's confirmed. they have been booted out by UEFA for match fixing.
I would have imagined that the next placed Turkish team would replace them though?
