Cavity Wall Insulation

    Hi Folks,

I'm looking to get the interior cavity wall insulation in my two story exstension (its bitter out there in winter). I had one contractor out and they said my extension was suitable for it. I have had a look after they where gone in the vent and it is a cavity wall. It seems there is about 4 inches of cavity give or take. There seems to be aero board taking up half that space so i reckon the beading these guys put in will fill the rest.

Would this be normal practice when putting in beading that the Aero baord would be in place? And if anyone has experience of interior wall cavity i would love to hear about it.

The beading they use is Graphite 27 Plus Silver Beading.

    Yes this is normal practice....

FYI All bonded bead is the same,.... irrespective of 'brand name'

It would be normal in these situations and very common too.

Had it done in my own house a couple of years ago and would highly recommend it. Ecobead Platinum was a welcome guest :)

Sorry, I wouldn't know any installers in the Dublin area but if you are looking for a grant you can view a full list of SEI approved installers here

spray foam polyurethane is far better for walls and while it hasn't got NSAI cert yet it has BBA cert for walls

from a U value point of view there is no comparison foam is way higher values and closed cell polyurethane also is water proof and ads to the structural integrity of a building

Roughly how much would it cost to get the cavity walls pumped these days? See pic of the house attached. There isnt too much wallspace to be pumped in all.

Expect to pay €600 to €900 to pump the walls of your house. Price will be dependant on location and size of cavity

Is this true? Someone told me to make sure you get the glued grey bead and not the white one. What is the latest to the market? Is Graphite 27 PLUS?

    Hey Troy,
I don't think any contractors are using White Bead these days. The grey bead is better than White bead.
Bonded Grey Bead is yer man for the job.
You can check the NSAI Certs for the different bead on NSAI Site.
