Online gambling in USA

Since coming to America, I'm disappointed to learn that my PaddyPower account has been suspended as the company isn't allowed to operate in the USA or Canada. Are there any other gambling sites out there that I can use to get my fix or is online gambling completely banned in America? There defintely isn't the same gambling culture out here as in Ireland, where there is a bookies on every corner.

It's illegal to place sports bets over the internet from the majority of states (if not all) in the US as far as I know. I don't know any reputable bookies who would risk taking bets from US registered customers. Recently legal action has been taken against a couple of companies who were doing this so most of the big companies will block US IP addresses and credit cards from registering.

There's an outright ban. I watched a programme when I was over there. They used to allow companies who weren't registered in the US accept bets,or rather they were getting away with it. Some company was set up in Bermuda by an American citizen and took bets and was later sent to prison.

Off track gambling is legal only in casinos. There may be a few illegal websites but no reputable sites will allow US customers

yea i thought this too but apparantly 5 dimes is the one they use. I just checked they're web page and they seem to be reputable enough. I think they have a mobile ap too.
I don't think in-running bets are easy to come by though.

get an irish proxy, or if you can host a Virtual PC on the internet here, and access that from the states.. ;-)..

Youd want to be using it a fair bit to justify, but costs of setting up a virtual pc are very low now..

The overplay desktop app is the business for this. I bought it to watch GAA/Watch stuff on the rte and bbc iplayers but since my Paddy Power account got locked, i started using Boylesports with this turned on and have had no problems.

Just have to make sure that you have it turned on EVERY time you use the site. If you forget once, then it will probably be flagged and your account could get shut down.

Define repuatable? Bet365 seems to be a favorite on thie forum and they have a US facing business.

Pinnacle, Bodog, Betcris and BetUS would be as reputable and trustworthy as PP or Ladbrokes.

The issue in most states is not a ban on placing a bet online, it is a federal law banning banking transactions with online gambling companies. it;s very difficult to deposit money so the market is pretty empty and incredibly profitable.

Bet365 may be US facing re the betting options available in preparation for the market opening up which is a possibility in the next couple of years but they don't accept bets from US customers. Nor do Pinnacle or Betcris and Bodog are pulling out of the US Market from next year.

Most companies with successful operations in other markets are not going to risk action being taken against them by the US government which would perhaps damage their brand image and reputation.
