What kind of written works are banned in Ireland?

    Idle curiosity really.
Is there anything in the written word that's illegal to possess in Ireland? Instructions for bombs/weapons/drug recipes? Unreleased court documents? Information that could be used for blackmail?

What I mean is, obviously it's illegal to blackmail someone, or make drugs, or whatever, but is having the information in itself illegal?

    Nope.

It used to be illegal to know anything about abortion but that was lifted.

I believe the full written works of Mr. facekicker Esq. are currently banned.

Ireland has an Official Secrets Act so I suppose anything that falls under that

There was a lad in the navy jailed not long ago for disclosing information on ship locations as I remember

They used to ban anything in print or film with the word sex too. They didnt not see the day a terrestrial Irish TV station would show a Vag-Cam coming.

I dont think they really ban anything now except probly some incendiary/terrorist sort of text.

    Which reminds me.

There's an episode of Star Trek where the Patrick Stewart character discusses terrorism and how it worked to reunite Ireland by 2020.

They banned that episode but not in written format.
So Séan Moncrieff read it out on Dont Feed The Gondolas (Bring it back please)

RTE feared it would bring out more dissidents, crazy! :)

    To answer OP's question
    On 31
    st
December, 2010 there were no books prohibited on the grounds that they were indecent or obscene.

    Some interesting points on wikipedia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland

Strict censorship has since ceased, and virtually all books banned have been unbanned. A 2007 era listing of banned books showed that none had been banned since 1998.
Madonna's controversial book Sex was banned several weeks after its release in 1992 but unbanned in 2004, due to the 12 year limitation on initial banning orders.

Surprised this book wasnt included - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=2056086250
