    Hello All,

I have a few medals for sale on Adverts.ie, I am convinced that all 4 are genuine, period originals, however, someone has claimed that they are fakes and has reported me.

They are all common TR period medals - the three Hindenburg cross types and a KVK2.

Would any of you guys please have a look and give your thoughts?

The sales thread can be seen here:

    Regards - Dan

I've never posted here, and my only connection is I think the collections here and the interest in history is great!

The first thing I noticed is the reporter's join date, 17/08/11, Long time contributor, no?

    Hi danpatjoe,

They all look fine to me. The KVK even has the kind of blemish associated with these types of medals from the period (no need to remove it, it's the little green-white bit: you only need to treat/remove it if it's growing).

It would be rare to fake the Hindenburg crosses. The cost v. selling price wouldn't be great at all.

Sometimes the ribbons may have been changed if one was missing. They can look new because they may have been cut from an unused roll but that doesn't make them fakes either as original period ribbon material is used to replace the missing ribbon.

Perhaps a mention to the Mods there, the possibility seems very real that this might be a re-reg by someone, perhaps the person that was removed by Smashey for having dodgy items? or something along that line anyway

That thought did cross my mind, but I saw that he had ruined someone elses sales thread on the same day in a totally different area ( the mods must have gotten involved because all of the offending posts are now gone, aswell as the negative feedback from the seller).

May I thank all who contributed here , particularly danpatjoe for starting the thread . All comments have been cleared from the ad now , GLWS :)

You'll understand that accusations of selling counterfeit items are taken very seriously on adverts and while the posting history of an 'accuser' is always checked we cant and wont just assume their claims are unfounded . Not everyone who sells fakes on adverts is aware it's a fake they are selling .

We dont have any militaria experts on board so again , thanks for your assistance . Were it not for this thread it could have taken hours of googling to reach what was always a likely conclusion .

@The_M : The possibility of a re-reg or alt was raised shortly after the comment was made . Those queries are handled at admin level so I'm unaware of whether anything was found .

Hi nessyquin and thanks for your post. We mentioned before to smashey that if you guys have any questions regarding militaria items on adverts.ie to feel free to post here at any time.

Everybody has their pet area of collecting a certain type of militaria as well as general knowledge about the most common items so the combined knowledge could be of advantage to adverts mods. So please feel free to drop by anytime. :)
